I was at Fenway Park for Indians/Red Sox Game and was thrown a baseball by one of the Indian - have

After the amazing ALCS #2 game that ended at 1:37 AM Sunday morning, I was by the Indians dugout and was thrown a ball by one of the Indian relief pitchers (Tom Mastny) that appeared to have come from the various balls that had been used in the Indians bullpen that night.

It was not marked as a ALCS (American League Champion Series) ball in any way. I saw some foul balls as well and did not see anything specially marked on those balls.

By the way, Mark Shapiro, General Manager of the Cleveland Indians graciously signed the ball for me. It was 2 AM by this time!!!!

I was pleased.........and tired!!!

Question: Were these balls supposed to be specially marked as ALCS balls in some way?

    Excellent Orville!

I was going to head up to Monday and Tuesday's games but sold the tix. I have WS tix for games 1,2, and 7 if they make it that far. I told myself that I'd only go if they made it that far!

Is Shapiro's wife decent looking in person or a glob of makeup?image
  • If it came out of the bullpen bag it is probably a practice ball. I've heard of teams using all kinds of old odd and end balls in the bullpen and for batting practice. Awesome story though regardless of the balls origin.

    You asked:

<< <i>Is Shapiro's wife decent looking in person or a glob of makeup? >>

At that hour (about 2 AM) I really was not intent on studying her with my wife image at my side. But I do recall her blond hair in a ponytail wearing a very "discrete" washed out blue-grey Indians cap with that dreaded CI logo.

But I will tell you this. Any wife who sticks around at that hour to support her husband in a hostile park gets my vote. Both Orevilla and Mrs. Shapiro get my vote!

Footnote: Indians now ahead 2-1 in the series!

I don't believe that make specially marked baseballs until the World Series

I believe that's correct. I've never seen a LDS/LCS ball before; only World Series.

I think they had balls for all the playoff series for 1997; what about other years?

Estil..you are correct. I have an Orioles team signed ball from the '97 ALCS but have not seen any other years since.
