The report simply states the delivery of 321 silver dollars. None were struck bearing the date 1805. The total reflects previously minted slver dollars (dates unknown) that were delivered.
I'm reading a copy of the annual report by the US Mint and they list that in 1805 the mint made 321 silver dollars? Anyone know something about this?
In 1805 there was a deposit of Spanish dollars which included 321 U.S. dollars by accident. Because of the way deposits were handled in those days, the U.S. coins were counted as coinage when in fact they were merely returned to the depositor.
