Nothing earthshaking to report- I paid for 5 day service, and got it right on time. No whining over service I didn't get because I didn't pay for it. The cards were graded pretty much what I thought they would be.

So who was more accurate PSA or SGC? Seems like SGC put the screws to whoever sent them those cards.

Don't know- they obviously have different things they focus on. I don't think a PSA 5 has to equal an SGC 60/5- I just think that if either company gives it a 5 this month they should give it the same grade next time and the last time as well. For the most part that seems to be the case.

    Anthony-

What's your opinion on relative attractiveness? E91's, or 1941 Goudey's?

Congrats on your submission -- it is actually a very satisfying experience to have grades come in where you thought they would.

To Sagard's point, I do not think that PSA and SGC's grading standards line up precisely the same -- and definitely from experience, the two companies do look for different qualities.

    Cheers

Nice grades for cards that are almost 100 years old. Congrats Anthony image

LOL, they are about 199th and 200th on my list, so that should say something.
I like the '41 Goudeys for the challenge of putting together the set with all the color variations. I like the E91's because they look old- more so than T206's (and unlike T206's it is possible for me to complete the set) and a more like N28's and N162's, although certainly not the aesthetic beauty of N162's.

From my experience of cracking out about 80-100 cards I've found that SGC's and PSA's standards are very, very similar in higher grades- 6's, 7's, and 8's, as long as the SGC's are centered. Having no qualifiers means an off centered higher grade SGC card will bump up with PSA, but otherwise will stay about the same in an amazingly high percentage of the time.
Once you get down to 2's and 3's and 4's there is a lot more variation between the two companies. That makes sense to me, since I think there is a much bigger gap between a 2 and a 3 often than there is between a 7 and an 8.
The only exception to this is on T200's. PSA is definitely much, much stricter on the grading of those, and I've often taken a 2-3 grade drop when crossing from SGC to PSA. It has happened enough that I pretty much discount any SGC T200 grade by 3 grades when weighing a purchase. Not to say that SGC is wrong, but that I think on that particular issue PSA takes the surface condition (notorious for cracking, since they are photos) very heavily into account.

Weird -- as the only T200 I've ever owned is a Philadelphia Nationals that I bought about six years ago in SGC 60...and I crossed it to PSA 5 with no worries. Maybe if I cross it back to SGC, it will go higher ;-)

Did you need that Yellow Mulcahy?

    Cheers,
