Golden age of the NFL?

We get to watch Fave, Manning and Brady.
Plus TO, Moss, LT and Gates. Throw in getting to listen to Chad Johnson.

When was it better?

I liked the 70s best. But I'm partial because I'm a Steeler fan! image
  • Each era is can be appreciated in different ways. The 1970s were great with the Steelers and the glory days of Monday
Night Football with Howard, Dandy and Frank. ESPN is promoting the heck out of MNF but the magic just isn't there in the announcing team
like it was in the past. MNF is fine but it is not an "event" anymore, just another game on the schedule.

What makes the current situation with the NFL much different is the multiple platforms for the game to be promoted and analysis on TV of all aspects of the game, mostly on ESPN and the local Fox sports net, the internet as well is a big difference.

It used to be about the only analysis on TV was a 1/2 hour pregame show on CBS and NBC (Brent Mussberger, Irv Cross etc.) seem so
    long ago now.

Late 80's and early 90's was a very good time for the NFL. You had the great 49er's teams, the Cowboys Super run and lets not forget the early 90 Bills with 4 more HOFer's to add to the 8 or so off those 2 teams. West coast offenses with speedy receivers and new rules to open up the passing game. Pretty solid bunch. Joe

Agreed as far as my favorite goes, but the Golden age IMO was back in the '50's and '60's when football was a part time job and these guys played no matter what, and players stuck to the same teams for the most part.

I agree with you. I would imagine its like Michigan said above, what you grew up watching is what your partial to. I grew up watching Howard do the MNF halftime recap of the sunday games, loved it, I miss that.

Cowboys and Steelers of the 70's I loved
Elways, Marinos and 49'ers of the 80's
Cowboys and 49ers of the 90's
    Manning, Brady's of the 00's

Dam, its all good man. its like pizza, there isnt such a thing as bad football.

I always thought the hightlights of Sunday's games at half time was the best part of Monday Night Football (if the volume was turned down...) and technology changed all of that.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

I think they called it "Howie's halftime highlights" and it was always fun listening to Cosell's narration while they rolled
the tape. Terry Bradshaw does something similar for the games on Sunday but not as good as Cosell and for not as long a time.
