Well, they do and you know it!!! Now if we can only get the media monster to settle down and move on everything might be OK. Another day of the Yankees this, the Yankees that, Joe Torre this, Joe Torre that, A-Rod this, A-Rod that.......................and I seriously think I'll just Freakin' Vomit!!!!
Get over it guys---------the Yanks lost, the Yanks underperformed, the rats are getting ready to flee the sinking ship, the loudmouth owner has headed south to have his tantrum in privacy and it's gonna be a long, long, long off-season for the Pinstripe loving fans of the Yankees. Sadly, the only member of the organization who bears any sense of humility is gonna be the odd man out: Joe Torre will most likely ride into the sunset, staying a class act and keeping his thoughts to himself. He deserves better than his employer has given him.
For myself, I harbor thought's of baseball in late October, much to talk about over the next few weeks and a few surprises over the winter. Stienbrenner had better hope he can locate a few players who are motivated by more than a big paycheck, his other option being a shorter season than he can accept!!!!! Watch for him to get beat at the table with some hoped for talent choosing to go elsewhere(can anyone say Johan Santana??). But for now, all you Yankee fans can take a few deep breaths and settle in for some baseball in the comfort of your living rooms. Just think of all the money you'll save!!!

Arod maybe, but who else?
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Posada is iffy, but the yanks will throw so much money at him that he'll have to re-sign with him.
it goes without saying that if Torre goes, that lineup is going to undergo a ton of change.
<< <i>If torre goes, its just about assumed Rivera will not re-sign.

I guarantee you that Mariano and Posada will be back in pinstripes. Forget whatever Rivera said about Torre. He was backing the guy up out of loyalty. He loves New York, and he'll get his $12 mill for three years. Posada too, the Yanks have to bid high for him because he's the only decent catcher out there, and he loves NY too not to mention his best buddy Jeter is here. They're not going anywhere.
<< <i>I'm curious to see how much they'll spend next year just to lose again. >>
As am I....apparently $225+ million wasn't enough, and they have free agents of their own now to re-sign to higher contracts as well.
Jeez, they lost in the playoffs (that they were lucky to make in the first place), and we all got to enjoy that for a few days. Now, you have reporters staking out Joe Torre's house, newspapers in NY trying to talk to his kids, and endless speculation as to which team will throw bushels of money at Arod. On and on and on this goes, and while its definitely fun to watch the circus that is (and always will be) the Yankees, there's a lot of other things to talk about in the sports world. Even the Mets historic collapse hasn't brought a shred of the publicity we are currently subjected to.
Go to the N.L. and you will find that not even the majority of Arizona fans care about the D-Backs. I'm a baseball fan and love my Phillies but if it wasn't
for the Rockies/Phillies series I wouldn't be able to name any Rockie other than Matt Holliday. I even went to a game to see the Rockies play and I don't
have a clue who plays for them.
I would bet losing the Phillies, Cubs, and Yanks was tough for the MLB playoff TV ratings.
I'd rather watch the Yankees/Red Sox and I bet most would.
So to the Indians and Bob Feller....."Thanks for nothing!"
aconte
<< <i>You will see from the dismal ratings the rest of the playoffs and WS brings that nobody cares about the Indians. >>
That's more the fault of MLB, ESPN and FOX than anyone. If they would put these younger, better teams on national tv and not focus only on the yankees you'd have a much larger audience come september.

See my above post.

Because they focus only on big market teams during the year, the small market, BETTER teams get no national exposure during the regular season.

Uhm, no....I'd rather watch GREAT teams than the yankees 50 times a year on ESPN sunday night baseball.

Thanks for showing the world how flawed and overrated the yankees are - again.
Don't particularly care for the yankess as I'm sure millions of other fans feel the same way. I think most people watch them, to root against them. heck it's always better ratings to have a villian in the mix. The Big Bad Evil Empire....$$$$
People seem to forget how much the SOX shelled out for their team this year.
Personally, It's nice to see some different teams.
Yankees Vs. Red Sox has been beaten to death.
After the 2004 World Series win all of a sudden everyone and their dead uncle came out the closet and started rooting for the Sox. Fair weather fans! I was GLAD they won the series and rewarded the FAITHFUL. But they got their long deserved W.S. win, now its the Tribes turn... and next year the Cubs can break their curse!
oh, and i missed this the first time around:
"I even went to a game to see the Rockies play and I don't
have a clue who plays for them.'
I think that speaks to your knowledge of the game, as a fan. It's not an insult, it just means your a casual fan. Do you not watch sportscenter? read the sportspages? I'm guessing you dont play fantasy baseball or collect baseball cards....I'd figure you'd recognize SOME of the names... like TODD HELTON lol.
be Yankees - Red Sox.
However it turns out don't expect Cleveland or any other AL team to ever overshadow the Yankees - Red Sox for national media
attention it just won't happen.
MLB would much prefer to have the Cubs still playing but it just didn't work out that way.
From a TV ratings standpoint MLB and Fox really need the Red Sox in the world series, doesn't much matter with the NL as both teams are mostly unknowns to many people.
