Joe Torre and King George

I've been a Red Sox fan for over 50 years. I was actually hoping the Yankees would pull off a miracle and face my team this Friday in Fenway...nothing against the Indian's team, just more excitement in a Red Sox - Yankees ALCS series.

I can't think of a better manager than Joe Torre. The treatment he's received from Steinbrenner is absolutely bush league. Torre never swung at a pitch, nor threw one. I think he did the best he could with what he had to work with. Huge credit to the Yankees for closing from 14.5 games back to 1.5 and making it to the playoffs via the Wildcard berth. King George needs to remember who hit into the double plays, or didn't get the key hit when needed...a basic recap of the Indians series will show this to be clearly evident that the Yankees just didn't get it done, unfortunate for them, but true.

Should Steinbrenner do the unthinkable and fire Torre, I suspect this could well be one of the biggest mistakes King George ever makes with this team. I also think some players will leave should this firing take place. Torre's after game interview was as classy as it gets. Posada, Rivera and even A-Rod, who can opt out, may well do so with the others.

Tough time to be a Yankee fan, but from this life-long Red Sox fan, a salute to you for a great season, exciting comeback and a never give up attitude.

Could not agree more. The Yanks came back and made the playoffs after much adversity early in the year. Why does George have to open his big yap and put more pressure on Torre. Bad enough he was down 2 in the series then having loud mouth George on his back. What manager would want to work for him? Sure its the Yankees and all but to have to put up with that BS all the time would get old quickly. Joe Torre deserver much respect and his boss is not giving it to him. Baseball really missed out with a Yank vs. Bo Sox ALCS.
  • If the Yankees dumped Torre, I would love to have him here in Pittsburgh, will never happen though.

But in the next mini series George should be played by none other than Peter Griffin

A class act all the way and a guy who I still remember fondly from his successful, and absurdly short, time in Atlanta.

i dont think george is that stupid, hes kinda nutty though,i wouldnt want to get rid of the guy who has the mlb postseason manager game record, its closer than most teams ever get!i was bummed too -sox and yanks woulda been cool as always-just wait till next year lol-as long as george dont pulla chicago bulls and run everbody off like he did with phil jackson and jordan, that was stupid, they couldnt buy a championship now or have a good championship riot like they used too in 80s -90s with those guys-george better think about what bulls mgmt did lol,we'll have to email him-say remember when bulls got rid of phil and jordan said if you do, im gone lol

I have a conspiracy theory on this one. To the best of my knowledge, Steinbrenner hasn't been seen or heard from in quite some time. There have been tons of rumors about his health recently, and I'm thinking this "interview" may be a red herring to help float the idea that George is still in control of things.
