FedEx Destroyed My Plat Package...BUT THE MINT MAKES GOOD!

FedEx delivers to my workplace and one of my co-workers signed for my 2007 Plat 1/2-oz. American Eagle yesterday. One look at the box told me that things weren't going to be good. It would appear that the box was run over by a forklift at some destination along the way. When I removed the coin package from the box, the crushed lid wouldn't even stay affixed to the crushed bottom. The plastic coin holder was not damaged or even split open....but it was crushed sufficiently to leave an imprint on the front and back sides of the blue box, and I literally cannot remove the coin. It is pressed in so tightly that I fear if I use a tool to remove it the holder will split in two and the coin will be damaged. Nice, huh?

OUCH!
I knew it would happen.
<< <i>I've noticed that when there is damage to the box, the Fed Ex guy gets out of my shop as quick as he can. I had one last week just leave the package on the counter and run out. No signature. no nothing. >>
Tell them you never got it and ask them to produce a signed receipt. That's one way to get them to take responsibility for their f*** ups.

<< <i>That isn't much damage at all as the coin is still in pristine condition. I have had the USPS and FedEx do much, much worse than that. >>
USPS handed me a numismatic package with a HOLE PUNCHED CLEAN THROUGH IT!. I'm serious! They gave me a full refund of the insured value, an apology, and the post master even let me keep the now damaged item. But all I wanted was the item undamaged to begin with.
Talk to the Mint . . .

"Relax, it's FEDEX" >>
Gold coin would have been flattened maybe.
You made my day with your smashed package picture. It was one
of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.
ROTFLMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow... Skid Marks..."-)
A few days ago on the news there was a story of a FedEx Truck going off an over pass...
Packages every where, many were totaly destroyed...
My experance is FedEx will make it right if a claim is filled...
Always have the driver note the damage...

<< <i>It's about the coin. If the coin looks like a 70, send it to PCGS for certification and don't sweat the box. If the coin has flaws, make them replace it and get the postage refunded too. >>
I had a major, national, well respected dealer tell me within the last six months, that platinum boxes and papers were worth $100. bucks on their own.
Well, just Love coins, period.

The USPS has done that to a few of my shipments as well. Although it is unfortunate, damage does occur while items are in transit regardless of the carrier.
The worst damaged FedEx package I've received was a shipment in 2005 from PCGS in Santa Ana to my delivery address. The "Standard Overnight" box was one day late and was apparently ran over by a vehicle (the box had tire tread marks on one side). The center of the box was crushed to a height of about two inches. The blue PCGS box housing a submission order was crushed into plastic splinters, resulting in coin slabs that were moving around freely in the crushed cardboard FedEx box. Fortunately none of the slabs were damaged. The order was a moderately valuable submission of about five Morgans, including an 1881-O and two 1878-CC's all in MS65.
