Lincoln Specialists - You ropinion please

I just noticed a couple of oddities on a 1921-S Lincoln cent that I have. Any Idea as to what causes this or how it would be classified. The "L" in liberty is non-existant. And please notice the doubling in the word trust:

Very excessive die wear, which can cause some letters to fade and others to wear a shadow of themselves.

Yup -- many early branch mint Lincolns are difficult to find without evidence of worn (or very worn!) dies.

  • Yes, die erosion.

  • Can someone explain? If the die errodes, would it not create a very muddy image. The "t" in trust looks fairly sharp to the north of the main letter. Would not the entire letter be very weak. But these letters look fairly sharp overall.
