Question on modern psa...future HOF's

I need to catch up on the past 25 years of star rookie cards. I currently focus on the post-war HOF rookie collection. Want to get the boards opinion on the best rookie cards to get for some of the future HOF's. I'm not looking for the super rare insert rookie's but the ones that would be considered the rookies for the registry set. I would be purchasing in psa 9. Please add to the list if I'm missing some:

Clemens (I assume 1984 fleer update)
Bonds
Maddux
McGwire (iffy HOFer)
Palmeiro (ditto)
Glavine
Biggio
Sheffield
Big Unit
Griffey
Thomas
Smoltz (easy HOFer in my opinion)
A-Rod
I-Rod
Jeter
Ichiro
Chipper Jones
Vladimir
Piazza
Manny
Sosa
Pujols

Thanks,
Please add as you see fit with associated best "clasic rookie card" to collect.

    Here's what I'd pick (most are no-brainers, and are already in the "rookie card" recognized in some of the other registry sets)

    Clemens = 1984 Fleer Update (3000k & 300 win sets)
    Bonds = 1986 Fleer Update (87 Fleer had been used in the 500 hr set for a while, but recently they added the 86 Fleer Update as an "or" option)
    Maddux = 1987 Donruss (3000k & 300 win sets)
    McGwire =1985 Topps (500 hr & ROY sets)
    Palmeiro = 1987 Donruss (500 hr & 3000 hit sets)
    Glavine = 1988 Score (300 win set)
    Biggio = 1988 Score Traded (3000 hit set)
    Sheffield = 1989 Upper Deck (most valuable base card)
    Big Unit = 1989 Upper Deck (3000 k set)
    Griffey = 1989 Upper Deck (500 hr set)
    Thomas = 1990 Leaf (500 hr set)
    Smoltz = 1988 Fleer Update (first card)
    A-Rod = 1994 SP (500 hr set)
    Jeter = 1993 SP (ROY set)
    Vladimir = 1995 Bowman's Best (most valuable base card)
    Manny = 1992 Bowman (most valuable base card)
    Sosa = 1990 Leaf (500 hr set)

    I'm not so sure on these though..

    I-Rod = 1991 Ultra Update OR Bowman
    Chipper Jones = 1991 Topps OR 1991 Bowman
    Piazza = 1992 Bowman (most popular and in the ROY registry) OR 1992 Fleer Update (higher price)

    Ichiro = ? (the ROY registry uses 2001 Bowman's Best)
    Pujols = ? (the ROY registry uses 2001 Bowman's Best)

    Here's a few additions to consider:
    Likely HoFers:
    Pedro Martinez = 1991 Upper Deck Final Edition
    Jeff Kent = 1992 Fleer Update
    Mariano Rivera = 1992 Bowman
    Treavor Hoffman = 1992 Bowman

    Debatable (or non-shoe-in) HoFers:
    Omar Vizquel = 1989 Upper Deck
    Roberto Alomar = 1988 Score Traded
    Jim Thome = 1991 Bowman
    Jeff Bagwell = 1991 Stadium Club (I like 1991 Ultra Update better)
    Curt Schilling = 1989 Donruss
    Andruw Jones = 1995 Bowman's Best
    Johan Santana = 2000 Finest OR 2000 Bowman's Best (I like the look of 2000 Finest better)

    "My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

    Those are each excellent lists. I'll just add a couple of Braves-related tweaks.

    Glavine's rookie in the All Time Braves set is the 88 Fleer, so you can take that into account (you can't go wrong with either it or the Score), and while Smoltz's 88 Fleer Update is the best choice, I think his 89 Upper Deck card is going to be very popular and sought after upon his enshrinement, as well.
  • Here are a few different cards to consider.....

    Bonds - '86 Topps Traded Tiffany
    Maddux - '86 Topps Traded Tiffany (However, I really like the '87 Donruss)
    Palmeiro - '87 Topps Tiffany
    Glavine - '88 Score Glossy
    Biggio - '88 Score Traded Glossy
    Thomas - '90 Topps (No name on front)
    Pujols - '01 Bowman Chrome Autograph (I think most collectors would agree this is "the" rookie card)
    My collection is under construction at 27outs.net

    Nice list. As a modern and vintage RC collector, I have most on the
    list. However, I do not neccessarily (sp?) go after the premium cards.
    (Or the ones on the registry)

    The Maddux is an '87 Topps Traded (or Tiffany)...just an FYI.

    Has anyone considered creating a Baseball Future HOF registry set (similar to the NFL Future HOF set)?
