Interesting (!!) Caballito post on the liteside

Linkage. I've never seen one like that, mostly white, or if toned, not colorful like this one. Thoughts from the experts??

  • I 'm far from an expert , but I like that coin alot. Looks natural to me . Some of the Battle Creek coins look AT to me , but people (more in the know then me) Swear they are not.

It looks suspicious to me, perhaps heat-treated. I also noted that the same coin has been offered once before on TT recently.

PCGS is the best in the business, but I would side with newsman. Something just doesn't feel right about the obverse. I wonder if the pic over emphasizes the toning.

These and the 1921 2-Pesos are most frequently found heavily cleaned/dipped. Finding original ones with toning is tough.

$1,296 after juice and shipping seems just crazy money to me, but I've reacted like that before only to have people tell me I'm being a cheapskate or don't know the market. image

I'll be satisfied with the one below. It's only an ICG AU55, but it was less than 10% of what the one above went for...

usually, Teletrades pics are a bit conservative if anything. It wouldn't surprise me if the coin was AT, many in PCGS/NGC slabs are. the question is whether it is "market acceptable". there have been some really long threads these last few months on known AT coins in PCGS slabs and in a couple, coin docs have attested to the fact that they have been successful in this arena. I know Pharmer (among others) can weigh in on a recent thead that was posted on the liteside forum where a coin doc spilled his guts on the types of really nice AT'd coins he has gotten into both PCGS and NGC holders. Braddick also talked at lenghth with a big time coin doc. the thing that surprised him (among other things) was that many of the best docs start off with a coin with decent toning already, and tweak the colors (as opposed to a totally dipped/white coin) as it looks more nautural. I wouldn't be surprised if this Cab. is the work of a doc that is starting to venture into nicer darkside stuff, and it already had decent toning. The end result you see that got "moon money" was probably the handiwork of a such a doctor.

It only takes two bidiots with more money than brains to make a market for stuff like that. If that's the company they want to be in, well .....
