Home PCGS Set Registry Forum

The #1 (50 pc.) commem set stats are ready for your (temporary) viewing pleasure.

I hope to find someone to help me with scans someday soon, but in the meantime, the 50 pc. type set is "up" on the registry. As you can see, there are many unique pop.1 coins, as well as many very low pop others.

Steve: As you know, your set is INCREDIBLE!! Great job!! If I were you, later tonight (at the latest) I would remove mention of the actual coins in your set (i.e. close the listing of coins in the set). You simply set yourself up for "priceflation" on the pieces you still need. Just my opinion image Wondercoin.

I agree Mitch. However, I have very often been PM'd, and asked here to display the set. So, I thought for a short time, I should.
Display of the set will be temporary, fans. I will remove it from view shortly, and again display it, when I can get an operable scanner (operator). Your comments are appreciated. image

If you have a scanner, I'm sure that several people can step to the plate and try to "Coach" through the process of getting caps of the coins.

Thank you for your nice thoughts, Keith. Unfortunately, I need much more than a coach. As my ongoing "benching" is still being enforced, I need a pinch-hitter. image

Very nice set, indeed. I look forward to seeing the scans image

  • You have to find some kid in the neighborhood to tear themselves away from their X-Box and show you how to use the scanner.

With mine, I just went trial and error until I got a coin scan that resembled the coin in the slab. Just remember, lightly toned pieces scan best, monster toning can often look dark, and white pieces may look bleached out. That or you can just FedEx everything to Texas and I'll scan them for you. I promise I won't let Spooly cherrypick the Texas commems. image

A Lafayette in PCGS MS67? I've never even heard of such a coin. Do you really believe there are four others? I don't.
    Nice set.
(Mine sure has a long ways to go-)

Interesting thought, Pat. I had never considered the commems having pop errors in the really low pops finest knowns, such as pop 2, 3, 4, or 5, such as the Lafayette.
When it came to dupes in the pop of other series, I was made aware of the potential for dupes in the pops, or the exact number of known dupes in the highest grades. I just had never considered the lower pops, finest known commems may also have dupes.
I figured that Larry Shepherd and others would have known if the pops were incorrect, having seen all the top coins, and would have let someone know. I can't see a reason to neglect to correct the numbers.
I do know of the whereabouts of a few issues, for example, I (now, regretfully) passed on the second, or other finest known pop.2 California.
I think I need to do some research on this. Some of the low pop coins could be a lot rarer than originally thought.
Thanks, again, Pat. What a great positive idea. I can't wait until I hear my first confirmation.
PS. One reason I had never thought of it before, was that even I have seen, or know where most of the "others" are, when it comes to the low pop commems, but I am certainly not aware of all of them.

I just noticed, although the %ages won't change, I have added another piece, not yet reflected. The Texas '37d should read ms68 (new pop.1/0). image

Mr. Registry, why does everthing say "updated"---BigE

BigE: PCGS updates as "Updated" whenever there is a change. Whether it's an upgrade or a new coin added (or, even a new set), they now show the 'upgraded' logo.

Hi, E. I just got my (whole) set back from pcgs following pedigree-ing. Along with the pedigree came all new pcgs cert. numbers. I just recorded the new cert numbers. so all were "updated" in effect. The only actual very recent upgrade was the Texas. Thanks. image
  • It just struck me that if ya'll are sending sets in for pedigreeing anyway... sure would be cool if PCGS would image them at the same time, even if for a fee.

I'd think most registry guys would pay extra for this if they had nice coins, as it would be an excellent resource when it came time to sell a coin or set.

And of course the rest of us would love to see some photos. In the meantime, nice numbers! image

That's a terrific idea! I know NGC will scan your coins but they don't offer a Pedigree service (yet?). As long as PCGS has the coins I'd imagine a small fee to photo them would benefit them and the Registry owner. Great idea Tad!

Good thought. I was very surprised to get the "wrong answer" when I asked pcgs that very question, before I sent pcgs my coins in for pedigree. I began to explain the logic, tried begging, but they said that they didn't have those capabilities.
I thought it made perfect sense to be able to get a professional scan, and then put the scans on the registry. This, I would have paid dearly for, (and another thing they could offer a review of the coins for upgrade). This could all be included in a "pedigree package" and would have made me very happy at almost any cost.
They could also offer at the same time, a "prestige" holder for the collector.

That's a coin-by-coin grade review, if desired, picture obverse and reverse, include info, and laminate, like Rick Snow does, (so collector has a permanent a pic, then coins can be stored), then scan to the registry, pedigree and re-holder in a nice "keeper" slab. It's a package one could hardly refuse.

Rick?: ... Not just another "spinning our wheels" idea, but another profit center... image
  • Rick -- I'd pay for a Registry package as described by Registry and super coin. Good idea guys.
