Bulk, Regular or Express???

I have numerous baseball cards from the 1960s that I'd like to submit to PSA for grading, using either Bulk, Regular or Express service. Anyone think I will get better grades just because I pay more to have the cards graded?

Does PSA frown upon a member submitting an obviously high value card via the Bulk route?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

P.S. I am aware of declared values.

  • Hi!

I posted the Bulk, Regular or Express message Sunday (10/7) afternoon and have received no replies and I'm wondering why.

Was it a stupid question? Perhaps too controversial for a member to respond to?

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you!
  • Probably just missed over the weekend.

Bulk services are for cards valued under $75 so if you include a card valued higher it will most likely kick the order to problem orders delaying while we contact you and get the corrections made to the forms.

No, you will not get better grades for submitting at higher service levels. This is a myth just like the myth that you can tell who graded your cards by the cert number.

Yes, PSA does frown on submitting obviously higher valued cards via the bulk route. See the first part of my answer. This causes needless delays in an order when you know the chances are it will get caught.

  • I have been happy with my bulk submissions from 50-60's. Turnaround was excellent on normal bulk and a little slower on specials. The grades I recieved are no different than the higher level service subs I have made because of card values. You get a lot more bang for the $$$ with bulk rate.

    Good luck with your sub.

But do you get a more experienced (and possibly more consistent) grader? Are you allowed to answer that?
  • Okay, how about this scenario?

I submit a card via the Bulk service with a declared value of $75 (the maximum for Bulk). Let's say that, according to SMR, the card is valued at $75 in PSA 8 and $250 in PSA 9.

Will PSA refuse to give the card a grade better than PSA 8 because I didn't submit it at a service other than Bulk?

  • you should be fine... I think you can put what ever $$$ you want, I think it's more for shipping problems and has nothing to do with the grades you'll receive.

  • Let's say I have a card that has an approximate SMR value of $250 and I submit to PSA using the Bulk service. I can't declare the value for more than $75 because it's Bulk.

According to message board moderator carolj, "Yes, PSA does frown on submitting obviously higher valued cards via the bulk route. This causes needless delays in an order when you know the chances are it will get caught."

Why would PSA care if I only declare a $75 value on a $250 card. If the card never reaches me after PSA mails it, only I will suffer - not PSA. Is PSA suggesting that they have higher fees for more expensive cards because those cards are given more grading attention than a bulk submission card?

Obviously, I'm confused. I would think that low prices for Bulk submissions would have everything to do with quantity discount than the cards' SMR value.
