newp...Large Cent...

lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,442 ✭✭✭✭✭
I hadn't bought a Large Cent in quite some time let alone one from ebay, but this one came up from one of my fav sellers... it's definitely a lower grade but I liked the look of the planchet and saw no distracting marks... thoughts?

Hopefully it's just the pics, but it looks recolored to me.

A nice, solid example. Nothing wrong with that type of a piece at all . . . . nice history, nice honest wear from having been slid over a rough counter a myriad of times by a kid purchasing some horehound candy, a cowboy tipping for a drink, or a seamstress paying for a scrap of cloth.

I bought this coin because it was attributed as an N19b (an R4 variety). It comes (I don't actually have the coin in hand yet) with a Grellman attribution card graded at 12+ and no qualifiers... I thought it would be closer to 20...go figure!!

If Grellman has no qualifiers it is not re-colored. The grade is certainly finish, not VF by EAC standards. Nice collector coin

Wonder how Grellman missed the round hole in the ear? The Newcomb 19
had no hole. Your coin is the more rare Newcomb 21 and is a very early
strike having no obverse die cracks with a perfect reverse. Newcomb
gave it an R3---estimated 600 world wide. The F12 grade is about right.

Closer to a 12, imo. I also bet that the color will be nicer than the photo shows. Looks like a nice coin to me.

    Terrible photos...can't make a judgement.
