1973 Topps, 1953 reprints Test set of 8

Any collector out there working on a set (or upgrading a set) of these "test" cards? Also, standard view is that Topps Creative Director, Woody Gelman, had these 8 cards created for a banquet. "Only 300 sets were made." Any info on this view? Also, any idea other than a "rush" job to suggest why 3 cards have the wrong image with the name?
