You got me...trying to put something over on some poor buyer! Please do not bid on the coin, because you would not appreciate the different shades of violet anyhow. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, keep quiet!
IMHO, VF coins shouldn't really have any "violet" on them, but again that's just my opinion. And I believe what I said was very constructive. But, whatever, you have your opinion, I have mine.
Cheers

I believe the 1897-O might be a very attractive coin, but one must realize these are simply scans. Regardless, it is in my opinion generally bad form to question the eye appeal or price of material offered by others on the BST.
I'll ditto what TomB said and a TTT just to show them off

I wasn't questioning the eye appeal. I was questioning the description of the coin. And I never even mentioned anything about price. But again, it's not a big deal at all. I hope it sells for a ton of money

My review of the coin.
Here, we have a PCGS VF-30 1897-O.
I bought this coin from Mr. Reichel through eBay. There has been some discussion concerning the quality of the coin. Let me present my opinion.
Wear: On any circulated coin, wear is a primary factor. Does the coin meet the wear requirements for the grade? I believe that it does. For the Obverse, LIBERTY and its headband are strong and complete. The rest of the obverse has good detail too. For the Reverse, the Shield has all details, the Eagle has great detail save for the area around the wingtips and the central tail feather. All legends on the Reverse are complete.
Strike: The stars except for the top one on the right side are fully struck, and the denticles are all in excellent shape. All other design elements are consistent with a well-struck coin.
Surface Quality: This coin surface quality consistent with those of a mid-range uncirculated coin. There are no distracting surface marks, and those which appear are barely noticeable and well hidden within the devices.
Eye appeal: Yes. The color debate. Without proper lighting, the coin in fact does look dull and drab. However, under proper lighting, the coin does display very nice toning. The toning is very even and pleasant.

"Ugh, I hope that 97-O looks better in hand than in the pictures."

You WERE bashing his coins...no other way to look at it.

I also think the 1909-O in F15 is a wonderful bargain too, but I can't afford both right now without ruining my other purchase commitments.
