CONSISTENCY IN GRADING

Have graded several sets in the past two years 1972 FB, 1972 Icee Bear, 1970 Rold Gold, and have a pretty good eye. Don't know if they will take this down, but considering a big submission this month in football. Hearing that consistency of grading has been an issue. Customer service which was once most excellent has been suspect and I tried them yesterday because I did not know how to link pictures on the message board and was rudely told they don't support this (any assistance on this would be helpful). I would like your very learned opinions on the efficiacy of submitting a 200 card submission this month. Seems like grading has been inconsistent. I know they were looking to hire new graders. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated

I've sent large subs (over 100), medium subs (50 or so), and smaller subs of 25 or less. My larger subs have always been hammered while my smaller subs of under 50 usually produce the best results. If you are submitting cards from the same set it might be better to separate them into smaller subs. It costs more for shipping but when the graders see 100 or more of the same card from the same set they seem to get pickier as they go through the sub... I know that the new graders might be trying to prove how tough they are too!! Hope that helps!

When creating or replying to a post, right above the box your typing in is a menu. Hit the 4th obtion from the left to insert a picture into your post. This obtion has a small looking framed picture
To add a link, hit the 5th or 6th button from the left. These buttions say "http" with a chain ling.
Remember when adding pictures they must come from a photo host site, like photobucket. So you need to upload any photos first.
Don't try and call in pictures direct from your hard drive. it won't work

I hope that Joe somehow finds out about this and other Threads. I have limited my Submissions in the last 3-4 years due to the excessive Trimmed Doesn't Fit, Doesn't Fit Minumum Size, Whatever B%$#S returns. Specifically how in the H&^&%$ll do Your Graders know what a Card straight out of the packs size was in 1961 ????? I have been buying unopened Packs of 1961 Nu-Cards Dinosaur cards for 10 years now and then breaking them out. I began submtting them about 3-4 years ago and when I first began this journey, (100%) from every pack were graded by your service. In the last year submitting the same cards from the same packs, about 30-50% come back as not meeting some sort of predetermined size B. S.
Joe. I am not your best paying Customer, I only spend a Few Thousand Dollars each year for your Service. That is slowly dwindling, each and every time that your Graders cause me to Break out a card to Re-Submit to get a Grade you make SGC look better. I hate to start over but my experience with SGC is that when you send them a Vintage Card, they Grade it, end of Story !!!!. Don't you get the Concept ????? Who do you think is staying up at night Contierfitting 1961 Dino cards, get real, were not talking 52 Mantles !!!!! Of the 12 Cards I have Cracked and Re-Submitted just from this set (Because they were too small ???? B.S B.S) in the last year your Graders have deemed Fit to Grade them the second time around %100 of the time. So this makes me wonder if you aren't screwing with my cards and adding some sort of Invisible watermark like is found on money !!!!! Is this how you know to grade the card the second time around ???? How could they possibly know or do you have a Dept. that just keeps track of Non Holdered Cards and colates them with each Submitter ???
I'd like to hear your answer to these and many Questions ????

sent it back after reading this board thinking it was my only shot.. and they graded it this time.. and it came back a 6??!!!???!

Still you have a very sharp card there. Who cares what PSA graded it, as long as you're happy with it that's all that counts.
I've had the opposite results of some submitters, when I've sent in large subs of say over 400 cards, I've done better across the board on the grades. It's the mid-size subs from 100 to 350 cards that I've done the worst on. I submit about 8-10 times a year and around 3000 cards a year on average. To be honest, I've always felt PSA gets it right about 95% of the time when they grade, although those percentages are slipping a little lately.
Fabfrank may have the best suggestion, send in less than 100 in case you get the tough grader or get hammered.

You are spitting into the wind. I stopped having PSA grade my raw cards several years ago after one vintage incident. I had a 1959 Maz AS high number (right out of the pack back when I was a kid), a 1957 Topps Drysdale RC, and a 1958 Topps Supreme Sluggers. They all came back either miscut or evid trimmed. I bought the Drysdale from Billy Goodwin at a National and showed him. He said crack it out and resubmit it. Nothing wrong with the card. I did and it came back miscut. I cracked it again and lo and behold, the tird time was a charm and it came back a straight 8, NQ.
The Supreme Sluggers was OC and I asked for NQ since it would be a 7, but I matched it up with other raw 58s that I was getting ready for submission and I knew where they came from, and I couldn't figure how it was MC. The same with the Maz. Matched that up with some raw 59s and the card was solid. Backs were no problem either.
So I took them to Ft Washington (back then) and no one at the PSA booth could explain to me what was wrong with the cards. They just explained was MC might be. So frekin' show me!!!!!!!!!!!
I never submitted the cards again (just buy graded cards online and at shows as I need them) and will never submit a card to PSA to be graded. I told Joe that from what I heard, graders come and go by the boat load. You get "grader du jour" and he/she might be gone tomorrow. It's all about $$$$ and they have to push the cards out. They could care less about the grades, while that is most important to you. So much for the set registry.
edited to add: the bottom edge looks a bit suspect to me with the bat-ears at the corners. That is a telltale sign of a possible trim job.
