Nice card, but a tad too OC L/R for my personal taste, especially on a card of this value.

8 out of 10 times that comes back a 9 at best. But, a beautiful card nonetheless!

  • A nice well centered 8 is just as nice and cheaper! Sorry for stating the obvious.

Fact is, almost all Ozzie rookies are perfectly centered, but Ozzie's sideburns and eye brows are not, thereby giving the appearance of an off-centered card. That and the fact that for whatever reason, there was no writing on the left side of the Padres' uniforms in 1979.

I completely agree with that. Nice card of course but not worthy of a 10 in my opinion.

You would think 10k would deserve a scan, maybe that cost extra.

you would think you could see at least a pic of the back. .

I wouldn't be surprised, if ya cracked an entire vending case - ya wouldn't find a centered Oz.

as with the PSA 10 1986T of Ryan, there may be a very good reason for that. image

What do these typically sell for in a 10? I am happy with my Ozzie 8 but just curious what a 10 goes for.

My thoughts exactly. I've never seen one centered as nicely as this one. Ever.

I know but that still doesn't mean it "deserves" a 10 because of that.

So thanks to 41GoudeyGuy, I am the proud owner of a November 2007 SMR. Thank you very much. Flipping through it I saw the typical advertisements and then I saw on the inside cover an ad from Mastro Auctions requesting consignments. And they have sample hammer prices. One of them is for, you guessed it, a 1979 Topps Ozzie Smith PSA 10 with the huge price "Sold for $4,915" on top of it. And the serial number is 07073490 ... the same exact serial number of the current auction.

Now, I'm no rocket scientist (just a practicing attorney), but 2 + 2 tells me that primavera1820 purchased the card for $4,915.00 and now is looking to more than double his investment. Nice.
