Highest Known... Huh?

There was a recent big auction catalog mailed out (the one with the PSA 10 Goudey Gehrig), and throughout the entire catalog it would say things like "Highest PSA known". What does that mean? Are there PSA graded cards out there that are unknown?

That's completely confusing what they mean by that. Are they saying that THEY simply don't know of any higher, or that there are PSA graded cards out there in which NOBODY knows about?

I love when they say, PSA 9, no known 10s. I guess they mean at that point in time. I wonder if that Gehrig was in a SGC slab, I was looking at an add for another dealer/auction house in SMR a while back and saw a SGC 96 or 98 of that card.
  • highest known means the highest graded by PSA. There may be raw cards that could receive an equivalent grade. The fact they aren't graded doesn't mean they would not be 10s, for example.
