Here are a couple I always wanted but never thought I could afford... until I looked into it more. I got them both for far less than you would pay for alot of autographed rookie cards these days...

Top : The Galloping Ghost, Mr. Red Grange (I have since picked up a nicer sig of his in the older red PSA slab).
Bottom : The baddest man to ever play the game... and the best football name EVER, Mr. Bronko Nagurski.

    image

On top of my list for sigs I do not yet have... Jim Thorpe and Ernie Nevers. Unlike Bronk and Grange... these two ARE expensive.

Of a dozen or so players that come to mind, the most desired would be the one who would sign without asking for money, with a smile on his face, and maybe even thanking me for asking -- too many players forget or never realize that a day may come when they can't give their autos away-- all others can be had for a price.

Class of 1963 Pro Football Hall of Famer Wilbur Pete Henry, or Fats Henry. Too classic!

  • Does anyone have a Bryan Piccolo ? I've never seen one.
  • elsnortoelsnorto Posts: 2,012 ✭✭
Mr. Piccolo's signature is available on eBay at this very moment. It goes without saying that Knuckles could do wonders with this... but I said it anyhow. I am watching it out of curiosity to see where it closes.

I think I have all the Packers players/coaches that I care to except some of the newer ones, same with the old timers. If I could add 2 players to my small collection I would add these 2. One is expensive, the other isn't all that valuable. Both are hard to find.

    al lassman nyu 1920s
ernie davis syracuse (and kind of cleveland browns).

Lassman got a bad concussion while playing for NYU as a team captain and teammate of ken strong (hof). Lassman had to quit playing, had a small boxing career and then drowned after saving some drowning swimmers at summer camp.

Ernie Davis broke most of Jim Brown's rushing records at Syracuse, then was diagnosed with Leukemia and although he was drafted by the Browns he never really got to play. I've read that there was a big argument when coach Paul Brown wouldn't let Ernie Davis play, and that was the beginning of the end for Brown as coach there. Paul Brown didn't want to see Davis get injured even though the doctors said he was ok to play. Art Modell didn't want to see his $ investment wasted and fired Brown before the next season.

  • Bill Walsh
  • Agreed with Bronko Nagurski. Read his bio someday. Interesting fellow from my home state. His ring was larger than a silver dollar.

Bruce Smith (Heisman Winner) would be nice, too.

bronko nagurski for me, most expensive card be even better with his auto on it!!!!. now thats a big hand rick lol!

I think I am going the way of an earlier posts that said Unitas and Payton. While Thorpe, Nagurski and Grange are the "fore-fathers" of the game of football.
I think Unitas and Payton are two of the games greatest players at thier position, Couple that with the fact that there will be no more of thier autographs signed make them more desirable for me. I recently picked up a Payton, Just an awesome card in my opinion......

  • Although I am more of a baseball guy. I would go with either Johhny U (Pittsburgh Guy) or Jack Lambert, my all time favorite Steeler.

I have Payton and Unitas, so I think I will go with Jim Thorpe!

Matt, if you play your cards right, I know a place where you MIGHT be able to find an Emmit auto.

Reminds of the SNL "Bill Brasky" skits.

I once saw Bill Brasky eat a goat with his bare hands!!!

And on his hand was a ring that was, I swear to GOD, larger than a silver dollar!!!
