Platinum Britannias

I don't look at the British Royal Mint website very often so I don't know when these went on sale. Four coin set is already sold out

With the huge mark up of the BRM I don't think I will be buying any though

Plat brit

Wow, 6k USD from the mint!!!Do people expect appreciation of these? I wonder if there will actually be an "unc." version of these like the "W" unc. coins of the US mint?

    Well, just Love coins, period.
  • I cannot see any chance for appreciation. Maybe collectors want them for the rarity / novelty

Secure one of only 250 such sets to be issued worldwide

250??? Imagine if the U.S. Mint minted the 2007-W Plats in that quantity.....image

Is it too late to get these Britannias in First Strike™ ??? image

    Are these good investments?

My guess short term (couple of years) probably no. Long term (couple of decades) probably yes.
  • Doesn't seem, to me, to be a real world coin collector item.

Of course i could be wrong, I am very often

  • I think they're way too expensive (like every other RM product)

As for the mintage..... I'm not really impressed and like Hussulo said, these may rise in price in a couple of decades.

So, my take on it would be to buy it if you like the design, completing a series or something like that.

Also, I tried to find out what the purity is of this coin and couldn't find that anywhere. Is it like their silver products .925 pure?

On a separate but related note, why does the RM charge such a large premium on everything it sells?

Way to expensive. I would love to own some though.

For the quarter once costs 995.00. You can get a quarter once US platinum eagle for less than 450.00

Silver Britannias are .958 pure, not .925. .958 is "Britannia Purity" which dates back to 1697 and is shown by mark B at this page. A, C, D and E are all .925.

Pretty cool history about .958, .925 and marks.
  • I wince at the price of proof Britannias
I have a set of the uncirculated but can't bring myself to shell out $100 for the proof version this year.
