Need Help Authenticating Barber Half Dollars...

MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭✭
Are there any diagnostics for 1913, 1914 and 1915 business strike Barber Half Dollars? These coins are cleaned and have lots of marks from heavy circulation, which makes it difficult to see if the mintmarks have been removed.

That alone might be a giveaway that something's wrong.
Wait until around noon to give this thread a bump and maybe the counterfeit experts will chime in.

  • I'm no expert, but maybe if you posted a couple pixs we could give it a stab.

I've never seen any diagnostics for business strike 1913, 1914, and 1915 Barber halves.....like I've seen for the "Big 3" Barber quarters. Frankly, the 3 Barber halves you mentioned are not all that expensive in the lower grades (ie, Good thru Fine) to make the removal of the mintmark worth the effort.....especially if the coin is heavily marked up and cleaned to begin with.
