1988-D Steel Cent?

I recently came across a 1988-D cent that looks just like a Wartime cent. I'm guessing the copper got eroded off of it until just the zinc is exposed, but thought I'd float it in case there is such an animal out there. Sorry, no pics, but the cent is in pretty good shape other than this eroded, gravelly surface on it. The color is what looks like a 1943...Thanks!
