Does anybody have a pic of an 1836/1336 Capped Bust Half?
I think I may have one but don't have anything to compare it too.
It looks like there is something going on with the left side of the bottom loop of the "8".
Thanks in advance........Wes

Mine's a VF+. Any much of a premium for these in the Bust Half Fever Craze?

<< <i>A little help please, I love overdates as much as the next guy/gal, but I can't seem to make out the 1836/1836 on the obverse. Should I get new glasses? >>
Look at where the (you should pardon the expression) balls are on the 3. Now superimpose the first 8 over a 3 in your mind. You can see the balls of the misplaced 3 inside the loops of the 8. Remember, its the first 8 that is over the 3.

Edgar Souders wrote up this variety in BUST HALF FEVER first edition in 1995. This certainly got some collectors thinking about the variety. Then bingo, REDBOOK started listing this overdate and the prices more than doubled in a couple of years.
This is not really an overdate, rather it is a mint worker error. Obviously, there never was a 1336 Capped Bust Half on which to make an overdate. I don't think the 8/3 is very interesting to view, not like 7/3, or 20/19. This variety is R1, so I expect there are many specimens out there to cherry.
<< <i>At one time I owned six of the 1836/1336s in XF or better. Nobody seemed to be much interested in this overdate, so I sold off all but the best two.

I think it can be called an overdate. There are intentional overdates made for reasons of economy, and unintentional overdates such as the 1909/8, 1918/7, 1942/41 and 1943/42 overdates. The 1336 date was unintentional, but then it was corrected.
