CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Carnell Williams suffered a potentially career-threatening torn patellar tendon in his right leg Sunday in a 20-7 victory over the Carolina Panthers, according to a source close to Williams.

Williams, who has battled injuries throughout his three-year NFL career, was tackled by safety Chris Harris with approximately three minutes left in the first half. Williams fell awkwardly and grabbed his right leg just below the knee following contact.

The patellar tendon helps hold the kneecap in place. An injury to the tendon can have significant impact on an athlete's ability to jump or accelerate, even after it heals following surgery. Williams is expected to see renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, according to a member of Williams' family.

Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden declined to discuss any specifics about the injury. However, both Williams and quarterback Jeff Garcia acknowledged the seriousness of the injury. In addition, the entire Bucs team came onto the field as Williams was carted off.

"I don't know what it is, all I know is it's severe," said Williams, who was in the locker room briefly after the game.

"I'm sure that Cadillac knew at that point his season was over," said Garcia, when asked about the team's gesture. "We just wanted him to know how much we support him

This is a tough loss, Caddy was on his way to having a stellar game. Pittman came in and shared RB duties with Graham and ran for
    90 against a strong Carolina front 4.

The injury to Petitgout is much more of a concern. The O line has been as good as I have ever seen them.

...and remember who our RB was back in 02!

Sad day for Caddy, but it looks like his career in Tampa is over. Rumor is that Tiki comes back and plays with his Bro...if that happens
you might as well put our name on the trophy!

The surgery he needs has apparently been done before and the doctor who is doing it is apparently the best there is in sports medicine. I was watching the game and I knew that when he collapsed like he did that it was really, really bad.

He's going to need at least a year to recover and rehab...I feel awful, Caddy's been a class guy for the organization.

On a related note, left tackle Luke Petitgout is done for the year as well with a torn ACL.

Horrible news, hopefully he will recover and be on the field again. He is young enough so he could play at some point hopefully.

As far as Fantasy goes, I think Pittman will be the better option.

Graham will likely be the feature back, and Pittman continuing his role as third down specialist.

Wild rumor is that Tiki Barber will be brought in for a workout...

Hope past comments about him don't come back to haunt.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
