I might put in an offer when he responds to my question.

The coin looks legit- but if you noticed he has others that have been graded by Anacs and are detailed out for grade.

And for the rest of you political idiots- this is a coin forum- take your self absorbed political views elsewhere.

    WHY NOT ??? >>

Because it is incorrect, irresponsible, and prejudiced to assume that an entire 1/6 of the world's population who all belong to the same country of citizenship are entirely dishonest or predatory because of some bad examples out of the bunch.

Until I get a reason to think otherwise, based on the seller's feedback and past records I believe they are legit.

<< <i>take enough votes from Rudy Guliani for Hillary Clinton to win and become President of the United States Hillary Clinton. >>

Just a slight correction…. Ron Paul is running for the Republican Presidential nomination, he’s not running as a third party independent, like Ross Perot did 1992 & 1996 and Ralph Nader did in 2000 & 2004.

If Ron Paul gets the nomination from the Republican Party, he’ll run against the nominee from the Democrats. In that situation, a vote for Ron Paul, is a vote for Ron Paul… not Hillary (persuming Sen. Clinton gets the Democratic node). >>

Sadly Ron Paul's foreign policy position explains why I can't vote for the Libertarians. Neo isolationism is not the answer to our problems or the world’s problems. Iran’s threat to wage nuclear war will not go away because a politician as chosen to ignore the problem.

And no, Barry Goldwater would not have agreed with Ron Paul. His stance on the Vietnam question was to bomb them back to the Stone Age. LBJ used that stance to run as the “peace candidate” in 1964. And we all know what LBJ did with the Vietnam War. >>

Well said, BillJones. It's such a naive view, actually intellectually lazy. And in any event, we are in the Middle East to stay. We are still in Korea because that threat has never subsided. Same with Islamofascism, we will stay there to deal with it, cuz that's where it's at. And if Ron Paul got elected, we would stay there. And he knows it.

But the Paul-luddites are good for a few laughs. There was a poll on Drudge last week, and the question was which Democrat sucked the least in the debate. He included Ron Paul in the list, and he won with 60% of the online votes. The joke, of course, was on the Paul-luddites, who flood online polls at every opportunity. Great stuffimage

Couple of notes. My mom was born in the city where the seller is from. Perhaps the seller is a long lost relative. Who knows.

I doubt if anybody here is prejudiced per se . They just have cultural experiences and perceptions. I would much prefer to buy a Rolex Watch from a reputable dealer in the U.S. than from a reputable dealer in China. There are just too many fakes in China to take a chance when you can get one from a reputable dealer in the U.S. Just as I would much prefer to avoid going to "high-crime minority" gang areas. Not because I don't like minorities, but the chances of my getting mugged or worse are seemingly greater in such areas.

Which reminds me. Where are all the Asian/Chinese collectors? I remember a while back someone in a book had Eric Cheung as the Cherrypicking guru Whatever happened to him?

I mean specific dishes. What are your favorites dishes?

Eric Cheung was a sharp cherrypicker, but it seems like he's slipped out of sight in the last few years. Perhaps he's devoting his complete attention to his college studies, but who knows.

There are plenty of Asian coin collectors on the West Coast, collectors who collect predominately U.S. issues. There are a few Asian coin dealers as well.

By the way, the metropolitan Chongqing (Chungking) area is home to about 33 million people or so, so chances your parent is related to the seller is probably fairly remote.

Fair enough...as long as you didn't say your favorite dish was chop suey, sweet 'n sour chicken, Chinese chicken salad, poopoo platter, or that fortune cookies were your favorite dessert.

Fortune cookies are as American as apple pie, as they are an American invention, not Chinese. Most people in China have probably never seen a fortune cookie before in their lives.

    Coin looks Legit.
    Seller looks legit
    Registry # checks out
It is available to add to the Registry

    Strong feedback
3 Negatives seem to be for postal/shipping issues
2 buyers claim their purchase was not real.
    But this coin is holdered

This is a coin that I would be interested in if I was focusing on placing a collection together of this type or including this type. I would actually ask WTCG if he was comfortable purchasing this coin (I have found him to be a solid information source and I trust his opinion) and if he said yes, I would probably buy it. image

For the pupose of clarification, this was the original question.

    The short answer is NO.
Trade dollars have been circulating in China for over 125 years. The number
of these left in MS condition would be small if existing at all. The coins would
show the wear of these years and have ID marks of its previous owners (chop marks).
The chop marks were a statement saying this coin is 90 percent silver. A wise Chinese
counterfeiter would not risk his head passing non-silver fakes. And the counterfeits were
not coined to fool collectors. They were done to take advantage of the higher purchasing
power of a US silver dollar over its intrinsic value of silver.

Coin experts have warned collectors for years that these counterfeits have arrived
in the US. But with the advent of eBay they have become a flood. Most are now
resting in 7070 albums as genuine. The counterfeits have cast suspicion on the
entire series and Morgans also to a lesser degree.
Coin collectors veiwing these coins, with a touch of paranoia, appear much wiser
than the apologists seen on this thread.

    American as apple pie?

    History of Apple Pie...

Apple pies or tarts have shown up, in one form or another, since the Middle Ages.
