Julian got me in trouble today! Tall tales from the Long Beach show.....

My 10 year Yn and I are at the Long Beach show today, and the Mrs. calls me on the cell phone. I answer, and tell her that Julian needs to speak to her. It goes something like this....

Hello! How is your foot doing (she had surgery 6 weeks ago, and just out of the cast)? Well, take care of that, and get better! Oh, your husband has just spent $40,000 here, but he has exquisite taste, and has picked lovely coins! Oh, I've set up your son with a $10,000 credit line, that's ok, isn't it? He is picking some really great coins, you will not be disappointed! Well, I have to go, it's a busy show. Bye bye!

When I asked Julian what she said, he said she said "something or other" about new Thomasville furniture.........................

Julian is the best. At the Baltimore show, he was giving me some ribbing about only staying one day. He told me to "get Mrs. Longacre on the phone" and he would come up with a good excuse for me to stay an extra day. The guy is full service.

Yes, Julian busts me, too. He told my kids that I would take them to Chuck E. Cheese's after the coin show (at the CSNS this past spring).

When I saw him at Milwaukee, he wanted me to tell all you brothers what a fine specimen of a man he is. So there Julian, now I've told everyone.

    Now that's Funny!

Claychaser, You have one heck of a supporting spouse as Furniture is getting off cheap!

If Julian would have mentioned $40K to most wives... he'd best be handing out Kevlar vests with each show purchase.

I bet Julian is also very supportive to your 10 year old YN son?

As decades ago when I was a YN in my late teens and doing the shows solo with a minuscule budget, Julian was one of the only dealers who didn't treat me with the level of respect of Rodney Dangerfield. As many dealers wouldn't give me the time of day, till I was in early twenties working 7 days a week, and able to pull a roll of Benjamin's out of my pocket.

All in all Julian is a Gem, always greeted me with a big smile as I approached him at each show and left me feeling warm-n-fuzzy when I left his table even as a kid!

Yes, he always takes the time to explain any coin to the YN's. My son was trying to work Julian on his quest for a nice Saint, but he needs to save up some money for that...

It wasn't exactly as John posted, but he did get the general flavor correct.

I did mention 40K and 10K, but I am almost certain that the Mrs. knew that there may have been
some literary license. She is a judge and has heard all sorts of stories.

Her exact response was to tell John that payback could be ........

Young CC is an enthusiastic YN and will become even better as he gains more experience. He is an excellent grader, probably better than many here on the boards.

The two of them very much enjoy coming to the shows together.

FYI, school was in session on Friday, but somehow young CC came down with a case of gold fever and could not attend classes that day. Daddy is certainly setting a fine example for how YN's should be treated.

BTW, many thanx for the kind comments.

  • I walked by Julian's table on Thursday and wanted to introduce myself, but he was busy. Unfortunately, I didn't get back by there..

While at Long Beach the esteemed Julian actually came behind my table to review some pricing information, which if you have not attended a Long Beach show is only worth mentioning because Julian NEVER goes to the back of a coin show (he's got some kind of secret deal with promoters)...NEVER!! A mass of people began to swarm my table but I soon realized it was only to see Julian image

You're so cute, Mike!!! I really came back there to see you and you only. The pricing info was just a ruse to be able to come behind your table. Many thanx for the chocolate chip cookie.

Well, we did not buy $40,000 worth, that's for sure. But I did buy a nice 03 LA Purchase/McKinley in PCGS 64 from Pinnacle, and my YN did buy a very nice 1799 bust dollar that cleaned out his bank account from Jim McGuigan. Sorry, no pics!

Any YN buying choice early type from Jim McGuigan is doing A-OK.

That's true - you did offer us the table - but only after the cookies had been completely obliterated.

I had one cookie, only, and noted that there were several left as I departed.
