What a great sub! Are any of these low pop? How much do common 9s go for in the '67 set?

I had a Dick Williams grade a 9 and it suprisingly sold for over $450 earlier this year. You really do have some big money in those 9's. Which ones are low pops?

    Wow, good job...

Here's a pretty sweet high number.

PSA was swamped with their June special. Thus, the 3 month wait.

Two 7's in a row on two cards that should be 8's (or at least one of them). This annoys me and yes I'm greedy.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING?? how do cards get more perfect then these?? what do you need to do to get a 10?? these 8's all look perfect... Ron... are these grades what you were thinking?? sometimes pictures lie
  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
Good question. Some of these have very slight (and I mean VERY slight) corner wear, which explains the 8's. But the 9's are just gem. no chipping on the backs (all green, I should have posted back scans because on the 9's there is NO chipping they're as green as green can be). There might be a 9 or two that could warrant a 10, but for the most part I'm happy with the grades. I thought I'd get some 9's but I didn't know I'd get this many.

    Stay classy,

Great thread...in fact I think it was your note earlier that inspired me to try the same thing on my submission. I love the live wax breaks on some of the other sites so a live PSA break is just as good if not better. I sent my submission in and gave my wife the info and told her to not tell me the sub # unless an issue arose. I plan to do the same live break on the boards as you're doing along with scans as I think it's a great way to share the experience with other fans of the hobby. Mine's a big 240 card submission of vintage FB (67, 68 Topps and 65 Philly) that I can't wait to bust but as it's only been a couple weeks I probably have at least a month or two to go. Thanks for sharing your sub with us and the scans look great!

By the way, did you ask for no qualifiers as some of the centering on a few look close and since I asked that on my submission (for the first time) I wondered if you had also done this?

Some of those 8's look like solid 9's to me!! Those last two LDR cards though--The first one, my eye is going to the top L and R of the card for possible corner wear. The one below it, my eye is going to the bottom L of the card and B/T on the R side of the card for possible corner wear. I would have hoped for 8's but would not have been shocked by 7's. Of course, the cards aren't in front of me either so this subject to change. This was well worth your wait. Great job on the sub far. image

Nothing like submitting your own cards and getting this type of result. Just curious, do you feel that you used a more critical eye on this sub than you have on other subs? Or, is it that the quality of these cards was so great? Whatever the reason, you have some real beauties! Great job, and thanks for the great thread.

  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
Robert - to answer your question was both. I knew these cards were blazing when I bought them, but I went through what I bought and carefully culled out the best. (Ask Flintboy how hard I am on cards.) I bought about 70 and these were the best. Some I knew were "only" 8's (e.g. the Maloney) but I wanted them graded anyway. Little surprised to see the 7's. The first few HOF'ers (Banks, Stargell, Marichal) were not part of the lot I bought. I already had those.

And the rest are coming up soon!
