We will be heading back towards CT this Sun

September 30th - Danbury Coin Club

Sheraton Hotel, 18 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT 06810

9:30 - 4:00 PM

BRIEF SHOW REPORT.....
running a show is no easy job, but clubs really needs to make sure that all will go smooth for the dealers if they wish to attempt a show....

The expectations for this show were mixed since we had not attended this clubs shows in several years.... the location was not a bad choice close to a major highway.... however the organization left a little to be desired.... upon arriving it was every man for himself... no one to offer assistance....at least point us in the general direction..... after swiping a moving cart from housekeeping we managed to get our cases etc...up to the second floor..... setting up was no biggie....but here even a cup of coffee from the club would have been appreciated.....

We purchased 2 tables to help the club out..... not once did any member of the club come over to us and thank us for coming to the show, offer to help, or see if we needed anything..... this lack of showed in the fact that the turnout was not very heavy ..... maybe 100 people thru the door.....

really a shame since there was quite a bit of fresh interesting material....including a AU58 1944 Steel Cent that I made an offer to purchase.... we did pick up quite a bit of great collector coins and could have purchased a lot more ..... we sold some items and had a nice time wrapping up quite a bit early (around 2pm) rather than sticking out to the end of 4:30pm.....

We also promoted our own show "COINFEST" and felt that this effort in itself made the show worth attending....

Would we do it again...sure we're gluttons for punishment...

I last went to the Danbury show in 1989. Anyone know what kind of show this is today?

We told our guys that we should help support any local clubs doing shows and signed up....

this is their 50 Anniversary show ... I know it has free admission and free parking and about 40 dealers...

We will be set up and hope to see ya!

  • I'm new to collecting (as well as the message board.) I've never been to a coin show before and I'm about an hour away from Danbury. Would this be a good show to bring my kids to (ages 7 and 12?) Or should I just head over myself? Just worried about dragging the kids somewhere that I might want to spend a little time, and would not want them to get bored to quickly and then have to deal with them in the car for an hour.

Welcome CT Teacher.... not the show to bring the kids.... the best one for the kids and the whole family will be COINFEST

this is a much bigger show with YN programs (young numismatic) on Sat and even a family magician scheduled on Sun

I didn't even know about this show. The last Danbury show I went to was in some run-down VFW type hall in an excessively seedy part of town. I did go to a Danbury show at the Sheraton about a year ago, and I like it much better. It's a good local show.
