  • I think the gold price is too volatile for the mint to nail down a price. If the price keeps rising they are selling too cheap and if the price is falling they won't sell any.

So I thought it would be a good idea to pick up a half ounce AGE about two days before they stopped selling and the total mintage looks like 35K if they don't sell anymore.

How does that compare with previous years?
  • From NN 2 Oct 07: for 2007 unc Eagles, W mintmark:
    Gold oz: 6,243
    Gold half oz: 2,704
    Gold 1/4 oz: 3,492
    Gold 1/10 oz: 13,167
    Gold four-coin set: 5,387

So, for example, for the 2007 burnished unc W mm gold half oz, a total mintageof 8,097, which is a rather low total any way you look at it. I have doubts about the mint bothering to reopen sales again if the price of gold remains high and volatile, so I am glad I bought a couple of four coin sets early.

Don't have the mintages for the burnished gold uncs for last year handy, but they were similar.
