ANACS coins at Heritage auction

skier07skier07 Posts: 4,343 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have noticed in Long Beach a fair amount of Heritage coins in ANACS slabs with quite a few in the newer slabs.
Granted, some of these coins are discounted compared to PCGS slabs,
but not all of them. This leads me to the following:

Why would a seller slab his/her coin by ANACS?

Did the seller first try slabbing the coin with PCGS?

As a buyer, even if I like the coin, should I assume that there is something inherently wrong with
the coin even if I like it?

Thanks,

Bruce

i guess i should ask a question first.

are any of the anacs coins properly graded or more low
    AU coins in AU58 holders?

this is a complicated topic and should be touched on by a coin
    by coin basis.

yes people send to pcgs first and whatever BBs there goes to
anacs. they know anacs in the end will slab it all and many may
    get into a normal slab.

older anacs net coins sometimes look better then current pcgs
slabbed coins in the same grade!!

i cannot say the same for newer slabs.. i am umimpressed.
    grade inflation..

edited to add: heritage's offering of half eagles in my budget
range are soooo embarrassing to view online. they are barking
    at me.

yea that is the trouble when taking advice from a person who
    studies only gold..

anacs could be a whole different ball game when it comes to morgans.

lets see what morgan fans think.
  • my understanding is that heritage, at least in years of old, had anacs slab some of the coins that were consigned raw. one could guess that this was done because anacs gave a good price and had a fast turnaround.

before busting on anacs, perhaps these anacs coins were coins consigned raw.
  • I noticed that a while ago. Because many of the ANACS coins
with Heritage have the most recent numbers I would bet that
Heritage sends them consignment coins that are problem or
    lower grade coins.

    Watch the numbers, Steve.
