Thurman Munson question

I was reading about the history of various NY Yankee seasons and when i read about 1979 it talked about how Thurman Munson died in the plane crash. According to the info I was reading,it states he died in August 1979. My question is why did Topps not make a card of Thurman in 1980??? Does anyone know?

I would say that maybe his player contract with Topps expired before the release of the 1980 cards.
