I was not there, but I will give it a shot:

Nice, original, properly graded, and especially, better date material was in short supply. The coins that were nice, original, properly graded, especially if they were better date, sold for strong money. There were tons of Morgans and Walkers, in all grades, colors, and prices. You could not swing a dead cat without hitting at least half a dozen Saints. Because of the rise in the price of gold, generic gold was strong, as telemarketers and national dealers had gold orders to fill.

At the show, the retail presence was weak, but wholesale activity was brisk. Many dealers were looking for coins to fill want lists and satisfy their established customers.

What's hot: High-end, pop top classic rarities. Nice seated and Barber stuff. Early and proof gold.

What's not: Commemoratives and ho-hum Morgans.

    From the floor:

The auctions are strong. Goldbergs had some neat original coins. Pontario had some Territorial gold which went very strong. Superior was weak, and may be their last sale. (Goldbergs are delighted). Heritage has four auctions going simultaneously. They all seem to be strong.

In my area (Indian Cents), Heritage had tons of schlock (overgraded coins in TPG holders) and they sold for normal money. The nice stuff went for way more!

BWRC was dealing MPLS at my table and sold a starter set of beautiful toned MPLS to Alan Epstein. Alan needs the 1909 VDB. Any ideas where he can find one before October 31st?

I bought a lot of mid grade Indian Cents and they don't seem to stay put. Now I need to go and get some more...

I had quite an adventure today. I ended up selling one of my large cents. It was a duplicate S-61 with AU50-53 details that turned out to have quite a provenance. Bill Noyes recognized it as a coin he once owned and one of the highlights of the coin's career was some time at ANA as one of the coins Sheldon supposedly switched.

The Heritage large cent auction was very strong.

    Attendance seemed a little light.

I spent a total of one hour at the show, and ten minutes of that was waiting in line to buy a kraut dog and wolf it down.

Returned a coin to Brandon and sold two, and visited Rick Snow's table (he was out looking for IHC's).

Floor traffic seemed light, and lots of cases were full of the same stuff I see at every Long Beach. Couple of dealers did their best to ignore me when I paused at their cases... Maybe it was my Hawaiian shirt.

The bullion dealers seemed to be doing a brisk business.

Adrian at Anaconda was so excited the he was nodding off sitting on a stool - a scary, yet interesting trick.

Got to the Hyatt at a little after two, and was back at the valet stand to get my car out of hock by 3:30.

Wish I could have gotten there earlier and stayed longer. Oh well, there is always next January.
