347 Card Football Sub Popped Today - Ugh

Very, very disappointing. Turnaround time is fantastic! The Payton Evid of Trim I personally pulled from an 86 wax pack about a month ago from BBCE, it is a 10 in every way. It's going back in. The Karras that was Min Size is a stunner as well, thought for sure a 9. The 88's came from 2 rack cases I busted and I got absolutely hammered on them. The PSA 10 Ripken P&G card I think is a 1/1 so I should do well with that. Tough card to find too. Other than that, every thing is for sale once I get it back. If you want dibs on something, post here. If your post is first, I'll give you first crack. The Garnett's are a buddies, as is the Morneau chrome and the PSA 7 Elway and Marino RC so those aren't available. I expected about 70 PSA 10's from this portion of the sub; I got 23. 67 cards are PSA 5/6/7. Some of the 7's will still do alright (Dave Robinson 67 Philly's for example) Now I'm just waiting for the other 335 card sub to pop. This was a single 682 card submission that they split up for some reason. Really wish they hadn't done that.

This is why I never send in a sub larger than 100..Unless you have the sweetheart deals that the big submitters get, I think PSA sends these large subs to their lowest ranking grader..lol

This is a massacre..You won't get $1 back on half of these..Sorry man...

The only advantage to them having split this order up into two parts it the fact that I might get a better grader the next time. The 86 Topps Football are all wax and rack pulls less than 2 months old. The 87's are the same. There are a few cards I'll do well with but everything 1975-Present I expected 8's or better. (With a couple of exceptions)
51 cards 1975-Present were 7's with a couple of 6's and 5's mixed in. I expected I'd get 10% or so 7's just by nature of the beast. The 5's and 6's are always lame. Some of these will probably get cracked out and added back to my sets that I pulled them from (1983, 1984 T for example) I certainly didn't submit anything that I thought was a 5 or a 6. Oh well. Hopefully my 1989-Present sub of 335 cards fares a little better. I'm selling off all of those too. Hopefully I can get my grading fees back.

I'm sorry to see this f'ing massacre...unreal. The same thing happened to me last year - I was absolutely killed on a 250+ card order...and it taught me to break my large orders into smaller orders.

What's funny is that I re-submitted 50 of the cards from the massacre order last year, and 75% of the cards were bumped up.... what a colossal waste of money.

Based on many previous subs of yours Josh, I know your eye is better than that. And none of us like wasting money on BS grades, so no doubt if you didn't think it was worth grading you wouldn't send it.

Bottom line, you got an inexperienced grader. It happens to the best of us...

This has been a consistent pattern since they hired the new grader two months ago. You've been warned!! A friend of mine turned down the oppurntunity to grade for PSA as they don't pay enough (his words). He was on his way back home yesterday from PSA and he says they have been off a full grade "consistently" the last two months. The same cards he sent in earlier this year are not getting the same grades (basicly in the same condition). I have seen this showing up more and more this last month with grades on this board from people who again, "consistently" got better grades in the past.

I'll be doing a little "experiment" once these come back. I will crack many of the 8's and resubmit them when another $5 special comes around and I can almost guarantee you (I would 100% guarantee it, but I might get the same knucklehead the 2nd time around), but most will come back 10's. Out of approximately 20 of each card in the case of the 88 Topps, I pulled out 10-15 of every one and put them in a box to be sold raw as they were 8's or borderline 9's IMO. I am pretty disgusted with this sub. I've got a few vouchers sitting here too that I think I'll use to resubmit a couple of these cards....Ugh

My last few subs totaled about 1700 cards. I wound up with a huge stack of off grade stuff. Stuff that looks like 10's but reside in 5,6,7,8 holders. I wasn't sure what to do with them so I threw a 100 card lot on ebay. I'm sure I'll take a beating on what I paid to grade them but we'll see.

This has been a consistent problem but I would say that it goes back about 6-9 months. PSA should look into it. Not that I want to see a drastically tighter grading process because that would only raise our costs but they should be able to pick out a bad egg or 2 and make sure they are re-trained.

I've sent in probably 15 submissions this year. Most were graded fairly. I have had a couple that were absolutley hammered. I can tell you that if the other half of this sub comes back looking anything like this one, I'll be done submitting. I've tried sending them 5 or 10 cards. I've tried the same sport, same year, same brand, breaking it up into smaller subs, sending it as one big sub... I've tried every theory. I think subs of similar years and sport in lots of about 25-50 cards seem to be graded the most consistently among the cards. The 10's I got on this sub are 12's compared to the cards that got 8's which I expected 10's on. The consistency is gone between graders. There is no doubt in my mind that because I sent in a bunch of registry stuff that was worth 5-10 bucks/card that I got put as a "training submission". I am very disappointed by that.
