Actually, now that you mention it, it does look like the FP is on the plastic and not the coin... it doesn't seem to change directions as it hits the raised areas of the coin...

Re the cheeseburger, a very likely scenario indeed. I really should stop eating at my desk. The fingerprint was indeed on the slab, not the coin.

Only problem: the dang thing is impossible to photograph well (at least it is for me
Straight on shots don't reveal the extent of the color, and angled glass doesn't show the lustre and the pics come out grainy.
In hand, the eye appeal of this piece is in the top 5 of all the pieces I've ever bought from NEN (and I've bought quite a few). What surprised me is that they listed six 1799 halfpennies at the same time and this one didn't command any premium over the others (some might say "Well that's because they're ALL overpriced" but I'm very happy with this piece for the money).
