how to grade AGE ??

my 2007 W one ounce arrived -- yes, by FedEx.

First one I ever got from the Mint in "uncirculated" and I am impressed by the quality.

no flaws appear on the coin.

but I dont know how to "grade" these. what do you look for in the strike? diagnostics, etc? where are the "detail points" that I should be looking for??

thanks, Alan Mendelson

I read "AGE" and thought to myself... " grade age by the wrinkles" image
In reality, I think it's most difficult to determine if it's an MS 70 without sending it to PCGS.
How are your eyes ?... Did you use a loupe ?
I sent this PERFECT specimen in and it's MS69... So my eyes didn't see the tiny little spots that the pros picked up with their loupe and that my camera lense picked up.

See them in the field around the Rays on the left and right ? Look for any imperfections and assume your coin is MS69 at best.
    Have a nice day, too.
  • I know that besides the "flaws" or specks on a coin, PCGS differentiates a 69 from a 70 by the features of the STRIKE.

I have written about my experiences with proof 70 silver Washingtons... Ive handled about half of the known pr70 silver washingtons and had a date run of 70s in my registry set.

what I don't know is what "strike features" they look for on the AGEs??

the surfaces that I have on this single AGE one ouncer are flawless, but I know that does NOT make it a MS70. What I need to know is what strike features I need to see?

I doubt its a 70 because there is NO evidence of frosting, and a MS70 coin probably needs frosting to have a strike representative of a 70. (I'm guessing)

    thanks and cheers, Alan Mendelson
