Poll: For those that have ordered and received your Jefferson Liberty First Spouse Coin

TexastTexast Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭✭
For some, Quality seems to be an issue, for others an MS or PR grade of 69 equates to having a defective coin. It's interesting reading some of the recent comments and seeing different points of view.

For those of you that think it's just more modern crap not to worry, I'm sure someone will post some old crusty coins soon.

To make it clear for some out there.....you do not have to send these in a sealed box to have them graded First Strike as long as you get them to PCGS before the 30 day deadline. They can be sent in mint capsules in 2x2 flips also. I'm on the fence over the Proofs because they are awesome looking. Prolly will keep 'em?
  • Well, I was a bit dissappointed in the hair detail, but I looked very closely at both my coins under a magnifier and found that they lacked the dings and scratches that most of my Martha and Abigale FS coins came with, so I sent them in to PCGS for First Strike.

My plan when I ordered them was to keep the unc and sell the proof. I really can't afford to keep the proof. I opened the unc because I still plan on keeping it. The proof is unopened but will hold for a while.

I plan on collecting a set of the Liberty uncs, I think the Jeff is gorgeous.

  • I was torn. Temptation got the best of me last night, and I opened them. Today I sent them to PCGS for grading. Even though I'm pretty sure they will not be 70s, I at least wanted the first strike designation in case I decide to flip them later in the season. If PCGS comes up with a "short" set of just the Liberties then I may just keep them, and then...I may just keep them anyway. They are nice looking.

My son bought some of the Jefferson Medals and tells me they have a higher relief and have more hair detail. I didn't buy any so have no way of knowing first hand. He was impressed with them.

What Texast said!! I left out the 1/2 inch part!
  • My friend brought over his coins and we were able to see them side by side with my orders. One proof stood out - it had a deeper more defined strike than the others. The uncs looked the same.
  • So do you guys just put the coins (in their capsules) in the 2x2 or 2.5 x 2.5 slips, place them in a box with bubble wrap and chips and send the box off? Or do you somehow pack them more tightly into another box instead of letting them move around loosely in the box?

I have one if each and each is in a sealed shipping box. I don't know what I am going to do with them yet - fliip, grade, whatever. I suppose if someone gave me an offer I couldn't refuse, I would let them go as I am not very attached to them.

I'm keepin' mine! They are awsome. I do like the unc better than the proof.

  • For now, I'm keeping my 2 pr and 1 inc and sending them in for grading. Someone mentioned that the quality is better than the first two, and would have to agree. However, because of the weak detail in the hair, I wonder if that would keep it out of a 70 holderimage
