OT: Best rink in the NHL?? - 1 vote for San Jose

I thought I would start a thread similar to the MLB ballpark thread for the hockey fans on this board. image

I have one vote for San Jose. Though I have never been to a game there, I have seen many of their games on TV and they have a truly electric crowd, atmosphere, and a pretty cool entrance onto the ice.

I do like MY PANTHERS entrance though, even though they did not use it last season.

Any other votes???

  • San Jose has a great rink and the name 'shark tank' is one of the coolest there is.

SJ would get my vote for obvious reasons. The place can actually get TOO loud at times, I have to remember to take ear plugs to post season games.

One complaint is that the outer concourse where the snack stands are located is too small to accomodate the between period crowds. The lines for the bathrooms and the idiots that gather in the center of the flow of traffic make it difficult to get around. I've been to GM place in Vancouver, also a nice arena, and the concourse was obviously designed by an architect who has been to a hockey game. Being used to the decibel level of the Tank though, I found the Canucks fans eerily quiet...

I don't know much about the sport, but every game I've been to was extremely fun. Honestly, the rinks all seemed the same...I'm no connoisseur lol.

  • As far as sightlines, the Xcel Center (St. Paul) for the MN Wild continually gets rave reviews. I haven't been to a whole lot of other rinks, but the only negative to ours is a too-loud foghorn blast from our lighthouse when the Wild score.

Good thing that doesn't happen too often (hee-hee!)

  • I've only been to two different NHL arenas, but out of the two (TB and FL), I would give it to Tampa Bay. Not only are they my favorite hockey team, but they pretty much sell out every single home game and have a great group of great fans. Hell, HOCKEY draws more on average than baseball haha. Although, the Lightning are pretty good so that has something to do with it.

One minor league arena that I really liked was the Giant Center in Hershey,PA. I've been to a few games up there while visiting family and the place is awesome. 8,000 fans on average to come watch minor league hockey is pretty dang sweet.
  • Gotta go old school and take the homer pick for me, Joe Louis Arena......

Though I'm sure a place like Madison Square Garden where the NYR play would take the cake due to the aura of being an Original Six building.. I like Rexall Place where my Oilers play. image
