What grade can I expect for these sigs/What do you think it is worth ?

I'm going to be getting some of my vintage baseballs graded , How do you think it will grade ? also how much do you think I could get for it if I sold it ? This one is a 1932 NY Yankees, only one signature is a clubhouse , the Jimmy Burke , all the rest are authentic vintage

I have had many offers in the past , I just wanted to see what opinions you guys have , or girls too, even though I do not see many here , I think there are a few ??

My wife has been pushing me now to maybe try to sell this because I have been offered a pretty nice sized contract for a few buildings in Manhattan , that could in turn cause my business to grow .

So instead of getting a loan , I am thinking now , if I could get enough of what I need from this I might not have to get the loan , or at least not as much of one .

Everytime I see that ball - it gets better!

The sigs are very strong - obviously the ball is toned.

I assume that will affect the grade.

Personally, unless they're gonna give it a high grade - I would just want it authenticated by PSA and put up in one of the better auctions - see what they say about a reserve?

Also - since it's a great item - and the juice has gone up so much in recent moons - if the % they wanna take is high - try to negotiate?

    Good luck

Did you buy it in an auction?

Thank you Mike , I really appreciate the advice ,

The only thing I know about auctions and stuff is what I have read you guys talk about here and from watching some of the past auctions from Herritage /Mastros and Sotheby's which I guess leaves the door way open for me to take a beating .

I have never sold anything of mine , given away plenty but never dealt with selling so my knowledge is zero when it comes to all that .

As far as authentication , they have been authenticated by JSA, do you thing I should also have it authenticated by PSA as well ?

It is my understanding Spence pulls as much weight in the authentication industry as PSA ?

Mr.Allen no I did not purchase any of the vintage that I have they were all left to me .

Nobody was more surprised than I was, to make a really long story short

I saw a '33 All Star Ball on Antiques Roadshow appraise at $25K. Condition was similar, but your Ruth auto is much more crisp. Granted it had Foxx in addition to Ruth and Gehrig. I wouldn't be surprised if this ball fell into the same category. Absolutely amazing ball, something I'll never be fortunate enough to own.

    Yea, I think I saw that same show . . .

That is one of my favorites , especially when the person thinks they have nothing special and then they find out they have been sitting ona gold mine all those years , that is the best !

I took this baseball to Cooperstown and talked to a gentleman named Tom Catal at Safe at Home collectibles , he used to be Mickey mantles signing agent and he damn near fell over when he saw it , he said , man if I didn't know any better I would think this thing was just signed 10 minutes ago , I brought the LOA from Spence and he laughed " I didn't need to see that , I'm actually a better authenticator than Jimmy , this ball is the most amazing ball I have ever seen in my life and look where I am "

For about a good half an hour he was showing it to everyone in his place , customers , staff , everyone . . . the ball is a real show stopper , he said if I ever put it in an auction there would be a bidding war without question .

I actually wanted to find out if the hall would want to display it , but he was like , what are you crazy ?? It might sit in the basement for years , don't do that , so I never pursued that any further .

Thanks for posting pics of that ball again. It is very, very nice. If you get the ball graded, and I've never done this, but I think you can have the overall ball graded or just the signatures or possibly even individual signatures. If you are going to do this I would just do the Ruth and Gehrig as you are going to get 8-9 on those minimum. To do the whole ball, I don't know how it would compare to this white PSA 8 1927 Yankees ball in the Lelands Winter 2006 auction that went for $40K+ (after the juice). Honestly I don't think a grade is going to make that big of a difference in what kind of price you get, but you should discuss that with the auction house you decide to deal with.

Lelands Winter 2006 1927 Yankees Signed Ball

If you decide to consign, you can always set a reserve but I think you're going to get somewhere in the neighborhood of ~$10K without a problem, and I'd be very surprised if it didn't go much higher.

    Wow, I never saw that one Mr.Moosedog , 27 Yankees !

That is an incredible piece .

    Jeeeezis .

Too bad my ball is darker than that one , that thing is white as a ghost !

When ya see it in person it really isn't quite as dark as the pics show up on the screen , but it is toned , I think it's got great contrast though .

So that is an 8 though ??

Thank you for finding that picture Mr.Moosedog, That helps a bit .

Well, I just sent an E-mail to PSA asking them if they have any upcomming shows on the east coast /NY/NJ area and if they do grading at these shows .

Maybe some of you might be able to answer if they will grade a baseball that wasn't autheticated by them and if it will have to be first ?

But I did aske them that question too .

My reason for wanting to know if they would do it at a show is because I just do not want to ship the baseball anywhere for the obvious reasons .

I have been looking at the highest graded baseball to date on this thread , the 1927 .

    The baseball received a {9}
    The signatures received a {7}
The final grade is NM-MT 8 overall .

I took my baseball out today to look at it and I think I got that thing beat by a mile and a half .

The signatures on my baseball are 5 times what that one is and the baseball is not anywhere as toned as how it comes up on the computer after scan , as a matter of fact is it just slightly off white .

Although I do have a few places on the baseball that have these tiny brown spots , they are nothing major .

I think my baseball will rank higher , but I absolutely will not ship it anywhere and I hope they do offer this service at shows .

Or else I guess I might have to take a trip to the West coast , just to get this thing graded .

Is it possible that my baseball could pull a higher grade overall compared to this other one because of the stronger strength of the signatures , which obviously are twice as strong ??
