1878-P 8 tailfeather VAM question for the experts on board

I can't post pictures until I get my camera back from my 15 year old - the ungrateful brat borrowed it and I can't find it...

Anyway, I have identified the coin as a VAM 17 based upon the diagonal chip in the loop of the first 8 and the die scratch in front of the eye. The coin also exhibits doubling of the LIBERTY and substantial doubling of the lower wreath and ribbon on the reverse. Is this normal in the VAM 17?

Yes, that is normal for the VAM-17. The II/I obverse always exhibits some doubling on LIBERTY. The A1f reverse, shared by several pairings, has strong hub doubling on the lower reverse.
