We're busy getting ready for next week!

The show is Sept. 27-29 this year.

I think we should have some auction results first and hopefully so of our friends across the pond will share their thought on Coinex which I believe is the same time as Long Beach

  • I just stepped out of the Goldberg session tonight after watching the Chinese coins go for really strong money. While the estimates were silly low, the opening bids and eventual hammer prices drew repeated gasps from the crowd.

I was watching these lots with interest from ebay live, but no bids were placed this time around.

I went to the bourse today for a couple of hours. It seemed slower than past shows. I spent an hour or so plowing through Karl Stephens boxes, always a joy for any darksider. I bought a few odds and ends for my WWII collection from him.

I passed on the Heritage Auctions this time around. Not much in the way of greyside copper there.

All in all, a yawner for this darksider. How many Morgans and double eagles can you look at? Long Beach has a sea of them.

I'll probably check out the Buena Park show next week. A much smaller show, but I went last year and found it interesting.

I have not been to the Buena Park show in 20 years

  • I sold a coin for nearly $500 on eBay a couple of months ago. The buyer was not satisfied that it was as described (claimed it was not a proof), and requested a refund, which I provided. He returned the coin, and I took it with me to Long Beach. After showing it to a dealer who was recommended to me, I was told it was indeed a proof, and I was offered over $1000 for the coin.

    I accepted. image

BTW- for those who worry about dealers "ripping" them, the Krause catalog value for this coin was $600, and I doubt that the dealer had any reason to believe that I had any more information regarding the value of the coin than that.
