Have Papal States coppers been counterfeited?

Bought this one locally, but now that I have it freed from it's 2x2, I'm having questions about it. I'm not familiar with the method of manufacture that was used at the time, but dead center down the middle of the rim is what appears to be a cast line.

Anyone have experience with these types?

I agree, it looks fine. That line is probably caused by a seam at the collar.

If you mean the raised edge running mostly from 4 o'clock to 11 o'clock it's just due to not having a snug fit between the obverse die and the collar. You can see this on a lot of Lincoln cents from the 1960s and 1970s. The error/variety guys sometimes call this a "railroad rim" I believe.

Coin looks fine. If you're still in doubt, you can always count on me to pay 10% over melt.

Nice looking coin,here is one I just sold ,not as nice as yours ,I bought mine awhile ago, maybe from a board member?
no photos of the edge but I did notice the same type of line on the edge.MoJo

I can see the line you are talking about, however, I have to let the experts chime in on this one.

I think that's just marks from the collar.
