The Big Break...

Well, I knew it was coming and here it is. The big break. I happend this time last year. I got all hyped up by product and came down hard at the end. So, I've decided to take a break for a bit. From tomorrow (Saturday the 22nd) till the following Saturday, I'll be compiling my trade list of A & G and will post here to let you know that it's ready on my website which you can find below.
There's some books I've been meaning to read for a bit and some movies that I've bought, but haven't made time to watch. But, tonight I was at Michaels craft store with my wife and was telling her that I needed a break. She asked me what's something I've always wanted to do but never made time to do it? I told her drawing cartoons. She immediately went to the drawing aisle and bought me two books, a sketch book, and some pencils. So, now I have no excuse not to try. I'm not really an artist, but I'm going to try it out.
Plus, I just got three books for my birthday that I want to read. I'm going back and reading classics. Like I got Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Lost World, and Around the World in 80 Days. Plus about 2 years ago I purchased a huge lot from an estate sale of James Bond novels. Come to find out it's all the one's that have been written thus far, plus some rare ones. I didn't realize that James Bond is related to Sherlock Holmes till tonight. Long story, PM me if you want to know about it.
But, like I said, I'll post here when the A & G trade list is finished, but after that I'll be gone a bit.
Thanks everyone for the great conversations over the last few months. It's been fun, and I'll be yaking at you all soon!

  • Good lord, man... from the title, I feared your wife was leaving you!

Taking a break from cards, or really, any hobby, is always a good thing when the hobby starts feeling like an obsession or obligation. A few weeks or months off and your appreciation for those cards will be stronger.

Video games used to be my hobby. When I started writing about them, my hobby became my job. I still enjoy them, but the thrills are fewer and stress is tied to them. Ironically, baseball cards (to a limited extent, these days) are my new hobby. I have to take time off from them, too, every once in a while.... usually when I'm clicking F5/refresh every 2 minutes on the PSA forum.

I hope your sketch endeavors and reading prove fruitful. Your life can't be too bad though, you've got a heckuva wife image

I understand completely. A break is nice. I've been technically not working for about a month; I'm being relocated, contingent on a few outside factors, and I'm patiently waiting. I'm bored and need a break from not working. I'm ready to get back in the ball game. I'm starting a new language pretty soon, that's going to be great and intense. I started drawing again recently myself, something I haven't really done since high school. As a teenager I drew and sculpted prolifically, but, other than a little bit of pottery throwing, I haven't done very much towards the creative end of the spectrum in awhile.

My girlfriend has been begging me to draw a picture of her since we've been together, a couple of years now, and I finally got around to it. I was pretty happy with the results and consider the attempt a relative success. The lady is happy anyway. So I figure I'll start sketching a little more often. I found a Rubbermaid tub with about 40 lbs of clay in it while packing for Houston, so I figure when I get settled I might give sculpting her a try. Gotta love those easy brownie points image.

    Here's the sketch:

I, for one, totally understand Guru.

    I wish you the best.

This summer - after 26 yrs of marriage - I decided I wanted to be more attentive to Mary.

    I/we decided to start dating.

    Each other!!!

It went well - I watched shows with her and did stuff "she" wanted.

I - too - spent time with other stuff - especially my old friend - the guitar.

    Take care

    Good luck.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I just accepted a transfer at work. The next six-month stretch is going to be awful, but things should get a whole lot better next Spring.
