I really love the look of this one,but think it is a bit overpriced unless it would grade 67.What do you think it would grade?

1938-D rainbow toned Buffalo nickel.

  • Looks like a technical AU58, but might grade as high as MS62 for the color. It is a tad overpriced.

Neat strike thru by the Indians Jaw and through upper neck line.

I'm unsure about the grade, but the color is pretty nice.
  • You can "Buy it now" and send it in, but it would HAVE to grade 67 to be worth the money spent. That's a crap shoot at best. Now it IS a pretty coin and, if you like it enough to spend the money, and it graded 66 (which it appears is quite possible), you would still have a nice coin. Just a bit expensive for the type/grade.

There are skadillions of beautiful 38-Ds already slabbed for cheap prices. I personally would pass and look for one slabbed if it is important for it to BE slabbed; i.e. placing it in a registry set.

  • Au-58??? No way! And that mark on the jaw is die errosion, not a strike through. Maybe I'm not looking at the same pic. image

  • Major die erosion! Wow.
  • Nice looking coin, but no 67 for sure. I would look for an example that does'nt look like the obverse die has dipped in grease.

    No way a 58!!

This strike is very typical for the year and it's a pretty coin.................... seller has a generous return policy so i'd go for it.

it's a very nice easy 66 nograde--------- questionable but nice toning.

I have bought coins from this dealer before. He tends to grade 2 or 3 points higher then he states in his auctions.Thats from my experience of buying and sending them in to get graded. He has very nice coins, but to say this is a 67 is highly unlikely. I would guess more like 64 or 65. Of course I could be wrong.

Way too much rub to be uncirculated. The colors do not look natural to me and the strike through bothers me.

    A $5.00 coin to me. I don't like it.
