Baseball and Football Board Games

I have a bunch of these. Mostly from the 1960s.

Do you think it would be best to list these individually or as a group (all football and all baseball).

I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.

I collect board games from time to time and can only give my opinion - I don't sell on ebay.

I usually shy away from "bulk" sales since I may have some of the games, have no interest in some or have trouble seeing the game in the photo I'm interested in.

Plus, I would be paying a good penny for shipping for items I may not want or need.

If you have never sold any before - just enter, e.g.: vintage baseball board games and see how they are being sold - the way they describe them and more important - how they display PICS.

If properly packaged, a game could cost over 10 bucks to ship.

    Good luck

What board games do you have? ABPA and Strat-O-Matic as well as early Statis-Pro games are very collectible.

are stratomatic cards from 1966 worth anything?? I also still have the original box they came in, although it's been worked over from wear.....my brother and friends used to play this game for hours on end back then......al.
  • Stone - Thanks for the advice. I plan on taking lots of pics with plenty of detail.

Moosedog - A bunch are from the Cadaco company. They are not in front of me at the moment.

If you (or anyone for that matter) is interested, send me a PM and I will put together a list (pictures should be ready by Sunday).

This is just a guess and not based on true stats but...

The Strat-O-Matic and APBA games are plentiful and probably don't bring much.

The older Cadaco - from the 50s will bring more money than the 60s games.

E.g. a 1955 Cadaco Ellis game may bring 80 to 100$ while a 60s version may bring somewhere between 10 and 30 bucks.

With the 60s version - the cover - IMO - will make the different.

Myself? The more graphically nice the cover of the box - the more I'm willing to pay.

I have the 1968 Cadaco because I like the cover.

edit: an exception on the strat and APBA game - if the players are pre-War or the game is MIB (mint-in-box)

  • Well, I think the stuff that I have may not be the motherload. The boxes on some of them are lucky to be held together, and others there are some creases.

Whatever I get I get. I have no expectations.

That's a great game Carew! Did you pick it up with the cards?

I saw this one on ebay - one in mint shape was up in one of the big auctions last year - it's one I would like to have - even if in fair condition:

Major League Indoor Baseball - notice "Honus" on the bottom tier of players? It went for over 500$ and the guy has zero FB.

Picked up the complete set w/ gameboard and pegs last year at a card shop in Las Vegas along with 1 full box of 1961 Nu Card Football packs. It even had the coupon in the Nu Card box for the card dealer. Very cool items. I remember the day very well due to a couple of W-2'S from Sam's Town.image

1965 Strat-O-Matic Card Set on eBay

edited: These are 1966 cards only for the 1965 season. Same as yours? $185+ with 2 hours to go.

Here are pictures of the cards I have. I have from the years pictured and also 1970. I also have some more current years, one being the year the Indians finally made it back to the World Series in 1995 if I remember correctly. I need to go back and see if I have the whole years or just partial years...I've only found the National League cards from 66 and 68, hope the AL is in the box....

I don't collect the SOM games but here's a completed auction for the 65 and 54 games listed as mint that went for 13 bucks?

Here's one with the 1966 cards that went for $52 - bidding war?

I know very little about the game - the prices seem to fluctuate - but I think there's a ballpark.

the item that went for $52 appears to be only partial set....If I remember correctly there were 20 cards for each team. IN the 60's they also didn't offer all of the different sets you can now purchase. I need to find all mine and see if there is rhyme or reason to it...I may even havae a list of the whole set in the box....now if I only knew where the box wasimage

The item that went for $13.00 may have all the game parts but it does not have a complete set of teams. The box could be as late as a 90s box. There was no SOM in 1954, but beginning in the early 70s you could buy historic teams, and then only All-Time great teams ( and the 62 mets). It was much much later on that you could pick up other historic teams and full leagues from historic seasons.

Actual sets from the 60's can bring in more then a few $$.

I'm a 1970s Strat-O-Matic guy and if I remember correctly, you could purchase the yearly players sets in a few different ways:

    All NL & AL
    AL or NL only
    Individual Teams

I think there were 20 players per team, and you could purchase an additional set that had 4 more players per team. Memory iffy on that though.

There was also a "great teams" series which I recall the 1927 Yankees were freakin' monstrous from a Strat standpoint.

    Moose,

Your memory is good.......I bought the game in '69 and them picked up some of the hsitoric teams including the aforementioned '27 Yankee team and the '62 Mets team........there was nothing better then pitting these two teams against each other.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who played those two teams to see what would happen. Loved that Art Shamsky/Babe Ruth matchup. My other favorite pairing was my dear old 1974 Oakland A's vs the 1927 Yankees. Seem to recall that Catfish Hunter was fairly effective against the hated Yanks though maybe it was because I cheated for the A's. image

I've kept all my games waiting for my retirement....I've tried convincing my son that the game is fun but they just don't compete with the video games they have now...I purchased one of the strato matic computer games but it just wasn't much fun.....not the same as playing the game. I even have some of the scoresheets left from when I played back in the 60's. The one thing I wish I had kept was the football game. I had it from the first year it came out but it disappeared over the years. I purchased a partial basketball set a few years back, haven't played it yet but it was in the original box
  • Does anyone remember a football card board game from the 70s. I'm pretty sure it was 73 Topps cards in the game. I had it as a kid. All I can remember is it had 4 slots on the board where cards were held/stacked. Anyone??
  • Some of the games I was talking about

Disregard the kid's game. I saw it a garage sale for $1. I figure for $1, take a shot.

I have more on the way.

  • wow....i really miss playing that strat-o-mat with my father. we even set up leagues with friends in the mid-80s and 90s. i don't know if the oldies were re-released or they just sold their old stock, but he would buy back-year sets from the 50s-60s. we used to love replaying the 68&84 world series. thanks for this thread and bringing back memories!!!
