This post is my Kudos to the many forum members who spend small to big big bucks and re-sell successfully, day in and day out, as opposed to simply selling what they own.

    Laurent,

many forum members keep selling, but at the same time do not sell their core collection, more members than you'd think because many are doing it via consignement.

The fun between buying and reselling is that if we had to stick to what we strictly collect, then we would only buy 3-4 times a year max. Going to a show and leaving with 40-50 potential sellers, because we liked their eye appeal, their colour, because we had another member in mind and thousands of more reasons, is what keeps me busy in this hobby. Besides, the potential profit of their resale is what might ignite an additional purchase, but small losses are lessons too.

  • That is an interesting theory Dimitri, but one I cannot agree with.
My core collection, which has taken me 35 some odd years putting together so far, will remain intact until the day I die.
Hopefully, one of my children will continue with it. If not, well, I will be beyond caring.
Maybe I Can take it with me?

I agree with D. While my primary goal is always to find coins that fit in my core collection, I always have an eye out for coins that I believe I can turn for a profit, even if it's simply wading through the foreign melt bag at my local dealer.

Of course I have different pricing models in mind when I'm buying for resale as opposed to a keeper...
