US Mint Kiosk in Washington DC

Has anyone ever been to the US Mint Kiosk at Union Station in Washington DC? I am going to DC this weekend and wondering if I should stop by. Is there anything there that I cannot get on the website or is it just the same stuff? Thanks.

Also, anyone know of a good coin shop in DC?

Have a great weekend!

Chris

It's the same stuff but you get to cherry pick the better coins.

Don't forget to stop by the Godiva chocolate store which is real close to the kiosk!

When I'm in town and need proof sets or proof silver eagles then I will stop by and buy a few things. Since the location is a kiosk and not a large store the location does not carry everything that is listed on their website.

Can you see if they have a specal mint set with Business strike coin's. I called and they did not know what I was talking about like in 1983 / 1982 they only sold them in the store. image

Not to butt in here but I doubt that any US Mint store with walk in customers carries anything other than Proof Sets and First Day Coin Covers. I know the Denver Mint Store does not even carry Mints sets let alone Special Mint Sets.

Some bills and other collectibles are available but not mint sets. BTX, I bought one of those "penny in a bottle" things from the Denver Mint Store and sent it in for grading. Only came back an MS66 but it was a 1995 Lincoln.

As with anything US Mint wise, you just never know............
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You can call the kiosk directly and find out what they have. It will save you a trip. I called when the 2006 AGE anniversary sets came out and they did not sell them. Every time I check it out it is slim pickins

Also check at the Mint HQ on 9th St. NW. They have a sales area in the lobby. Phone first and find out if they have more than the Union Station kiosk.
  • Thanks ... I thought I read somewhere that the store at the Mint HQ was closed on the weekends. Which sounded strange so I think I will call and check it out.

It IS worth it. I have bought the 2007 W SAE, GAE, PAE coins which they have in unc. and proof. Xpt they did not have the gold unc. W on last visit. They do not have sets of currency strikes other than the ususal rolls of quarters, halves and dollars. Regular mint sets with matte, silver and clad proof sets , prezzie sets, quarter sets. They have lots of the medals and the First Day of Issue Quarter envelopes plus all the current commemoratives...They do NOT charge handling or sales tax.
