Successful crossover, but one question

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,647 ✭✭✭✭✭
I recently submitted to PCGS an NGC 1832 Capped Bust Half($.50) AU55 for crossover a few weeks ago.

To my glee, it crossed over as an AU55 from PCGS, and I am now enjoying this capped beauty in her shiny new PCGS slab. image

My question is this.

Does PCGS contact NGC to inform them that their coin is now in a PCGS holder???

To me, this would be beneficial in maintaining a fair and accurate population report.

Do I make sense here??

Thanks in advance.

  • Nope, I just sent an ANACS coin in that crossed successfully and they sent me the insert back. I guess it's my responsibility if I wanted to report it. You would think that they would come to an agreement to trade back and forth, guess not.

  • But you can do your part by sending the old slab label (which PCGS gives back to you on any crossover) back to NGC. If you do that, NGC will remove it from their pop report.

I could be wrong, but I thought they also gave you like 50¢ too for their old labels?

I crossed several NGCs to PCGs. Stamped my envelope and sent the lables to NGC. Not even a recognition, never mind a 'Thank you'. Screw 'em. Mike
  • By not sending back to NGC the labels to have them reduce their POP its only hurting us. Accurate POP reports can increase the value of a coin. Take bust halves, some Overton varieties have have a POP of 5 and under. 1 coin will make a difference.

The pop reports are so hopelessly screwed up already, why bother to take the time to send back labels?

That is correct; PCGS will give you fiddy sense per label if you send them the labels from PCGS slabs that you have cracked the coins out of.

Not sure why they would be thankful; its nice for pop report accuracy but I bet they would rather have that label still in the plastic.

Why would any outfit be thankful if you attempt to add legitimacy to their standings? Mike

Well they never thanked me either, but then again I never returned em with a name in the return addy part. The fact that you cracked em out tells them more about your opinion of their product than your concern over the accuracy of their pop reports does.

Gosh, I wonder how the pop reports became screwed up to begin with.
