Please post photos of coins you have crossed from SEGS or PCI to PCGS

I can remember one lincoln that hit it big other than that in my years here I don't remember seeing a coin that someone submitted from SEGS or PCI and successfully crossed to PCGS. I get the feeling from reading the recent ebay threads that some of you know that your coins would grade the same. If anyone has crossed them please provide a before and after photo.

I own one PCI coin, a DMPL Morgan I paid twenty bucks for way back when and one Segs 09 IHC graded 63 brown. I have no clue if it would cross.

Edited to add: crossed at the same grade or higher, i.e.

  • This one was formally in a MS66 SEGS holder and crossed to PCGS. I think it is still a top pop of 1image

I never took photos of the coins in the old PCI/NGC/SEGS/ANACS holders. But if you look at WaterSports Cents, you will find plenty of cents with the previous grading services grade listed plus a current picture. My over all impression, is that NGC will cross, PCI will cross with a 1-2 point grade loss, and with ANACS, you just never know, because I have had some go up a grade or be designated full red when ANACS had it as a R&B. SEGS is the one I trust least. I have been burned too many times with cleaned coins in SEGS holders and I have never had an equal grade crossover. But this is just me.

I attempted to cross an ICG graded 1939-S washington at both NGC and PCGS and twice it was bagged for planchet flaws.

    TA great find.

Wow! That is bad. That's MS63 at best in my book. PCGS might bag that thing.
  • I am the proud buyer. I used to bid on Segs Morgans at a grade below what was stated on the label. I never looked at this coin when I bid. Fortunately it was a cheap mistake.

Was that a green label or gold label holder? There's a big difference.

This was cracked and crossed from an old PCI 10-digit green holder, where it was graded XF45:

The only time I tried to cross (at any grade) a coin still in a SEGS holder, the coin came back. I then cracked it and resubmitted and what was a SEGS MS65RD Lincoln cent came back in a MS64RB PCGS holder.

  • Many SEGS coins have crossed for me. Only I always grade them first and set that as the threshold minimum grade. Avergae about 4 grades lower than listed on the slab. Usually works unless PCGS find one damaged.

I don't have a picture, but I once crossed an older PCI green label MS62 1904 $20 Liberty to PCGS MS64.

I say "crossed", but in fact it was a crackout that I resubmitted raw.

I've had two coins from PCI cross to PCGS ... (and I've only sent 2)
One , a 1974 Kennedy D DDO, and the other was a $5 half eagle gold Indian.

On the other hand, I've sent three Half Eagle Gold Indians in NGC holders to PCGS and NONE of them crossed.

Did you crack them out first?

No Sir Mike... I sent them in , in the holders.

    Edit :
I found a photo of the Kennedy I sold on ebay. The label is here somewhere and I should send it back to PCI for their own POP reports.
