Could Mets fans please explain something - Thanks!

In early May of this year I was involved in going out to sea on a scientific voyage expedition to study the mating cycle of the humpbacked whale, wasn't able to get any outside news, and just now returned and picked up a newspaper and saw this:

Team W L Pct. GB
N.Y. Mets 83 67 .553 -
Philadelphia 82 69 .543 1½

I don't understand? According to Mets fans back in early May, the Mets were going to win the NL East by between 10 to 20 games and here it is September 19th and the Mets only have a 1 1/2 game lead and are fading fast. It appears as if the Phillies are gonna go right on by them. What happened? LOL

I guess it's analogous to your faith in the Eagles still being perennial Super Bowl contenders despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

  • Why don't you go back to sea by taking a long walk on a short pier.

Or, how it was absolutely impossible as impossible can be for the Feagles to lose to the Packers on opening day!

The Mets are already doing that. LOL

The amazing thing is that the Mets stand a very possible chance now not to even get into the playoffs which was unthinkable less than two weeks ago. Believe me, I would have rather just seen San Diego go away and have two NL East teams in the playoffs. It's gonna be close that's for sure.

Mets win big tonight. 'Bout freakin' time!

Now if the Sillies can fall to the cards, the lead is back up to 2.5 and the magic number down to NINE!

The Mets NEEDED to stop the bleeding and they did it! I am no Mets fan but I don't hate them either ..... unless they are playing the Yankees of course. Plus Willie is the man image

Well, 2 1/2 out now but if someone told me a month ago the Phils would be 2 1/2 out on September 20th I'd have gladly taken it. But now as a Philly fan I want more and need more from the Phillies, especially with the Eagles stinkin' up the joint. The Phillies better get into the playoffs or else!!! Or else I'm gonna image

make that 1 1/2 now!!! Funny, after 7 innings, Phils were down 3 runs and the Mets were up 3 runs, then BAM. Enter Jimbo Rollins
and the crappy Mets bullpen, and the Phils pick up another game.

Pets fans, except for a few, have all but disappeared from here. They know their Pets are now doomed. Might turn out to be one of the top ten biggest collapses in MLB baseball history.

Pets fans - better luck next year because this year your team is soon gonna be outahere! - LOL

Well, the Jets are 0-2, so it doesan't get any better....we're still in first place, have been for over a year now, and will be on October 1.

As any listener of WFAN in New York would know ..... poor Evan Roberts image The guy DRIVES to Washington after his show to root the Mets on to a win and then decides he is great karma and FLYS to Florida after his show today to be one of the 8 people in the stands to witness that tough game.

Evan Roberts is a DIE HARD Mets fan image

  • If the Mets don't win the division, they won't be playing in October. Check out the Wildcard records - the Mets would be looking up at either SD or AZ.
