Pitchers on three days rest...

When has this worked recently? Why do teams continue to do this? Peavy (shelled), Zambrano (roughed up), and Sheets (gets injured). Makes you wonder!

Inuries and contracts are the biggest changes. Instead of throwing more we want them to throw less to lessen the chances of injuries. Do you really think Spahn had a pitch count? Maybe with athletes getting bigger and stronger there is a chance for more injuries as there is more muscle stress but pitchers alot of times are thin and wiry. Bottom line I think the GM's and owners don't want these guys going past 100 pitches to protect there investments. I think one of the stat nerds sights keeps track of how many pitches over 100 and has some stat for it. They also rank managers in how they overuse a pitcher by leaving him in past 100 pitches. Anytime a pitcher gets hurt past the 100 pitch point in the game, the manager will get blamed for leaving him in too long.

  • They don't do it anymore cause they are modern day Pu$$ies. Pitch counts and closers made them that way. I agree the big contracts have contributed as well.

I long for the 60's 70's style of game, 4 man rotations and people actually completed games. Pitching is so watered down with 6 man rotations and all the relievers that pitch 80 games no wonder scoring and home runs are at the level they are.

Call me old fashioned, I loved seeing pitchers throw shutouts.

you don't even want to get me started on this topic, I may be old school, but I get so sick and tired of pitch counts and 5 man rotations, and 3 shutouts leads the league, ERA's through the roof.

I just hate it, bring back the good old days.
